TWO,You CAN use a toggle switch and flip on the amp when you need to. Nate was just saying, that its better to save up and do it right than to fry your 4 wheeler,With some toggle swicth shit. well my point is all i needed was the info on if i could run the amp with the jumper. i didnt need for you guys to call my set up ghetto or any of the other stuff that was said. the way i have the wire ran it is double fused so the worst i would have to worry about is a dead battery. If its just a 4 wheeler I wouldn't put any kind of good head unit in it. Mud just will tear it up. An mp3 player will work but might not have enough output voltage to run the amp. U also won't b able to tweak the sound unless u got a high end player with eq. I don't know exact #, but 4wheelers usually don't make too much power so don't go too big on amp or batt won't recharge enough. As far as running the amp with an mp3 player, i have a 4 channel hooked up in the bed of my truck with 4 6x9s and run it with my ipod whenever I want some music while I am working. I wouldnt call it ghetto at all, I would call it working with whatcha got.

osamio Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Running the amp with a Jumper is fine, I like the idea of power tapping the fuse for the headlights or any other switched 12v fuse/power source. BUT do it properly. Don't wrap the wire around the leg of the fuse or jam it into the fuse panel etc... buy a power tap wire device/connector. they sell them at autozone, and they wont spread apart the contacts inside the fuse panel. Usually, MP3 players have too much voltage out of the headphone jack, so be careful of going full tilt into the amp, I'll will input clip. If you have access to a multi-meter and some junk RCA ends you can test the actual voltage and kind of remember where to limit the volume. You dont want 20 volts going into the amp. An O-scope would be best, but I'm doubtful you have access to one. Anyways, good luck.
