HELP! Brand new 270 low charging out put!!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I just got all 3 of my 270's and have them installed... I only have the one in my stock 2pin position, waiting to hook up my MLA for the other 2... Well it works perfect no dash codes or nothing and last night I installed the first of 7 d3400's up front in the stock location I checked it all with my DMM and set my voltage meter inside the truck... It was charging all night last night around 14.8-15.2 now.... I can't even break 14.0??? It's resting at 13.7 even when I rev or drive it doesn't break 14 ?? WTF?? Each alt has upgraded 1/0 grounds and 2 1/0 (+) to the battery

If I shut the truck off and re start it the voltage goes back up to 15.2 but then slowly fades all the way back dwn to 13.7 over like 2-3 min

SOMEBODY help me out I have to get this figured out soon

Thanks

Blake

i don't think you'll be getting a resting voltage over 14 volts.. 13.7 sounds pretty good to me .. i wouldn't complain.. i get a steady 14.6 volts with the car on though.. and it rest at 13.2

at start ups.. it will jump high.. that's completely normal until the engined has warmed up enough....

I checked all the wiring and everythin is fine??? I'll check the alt post when I get out of church.... I'm just wign out bc Im already pushing my deadline to make it to Carl Casper next month gota figure it out

What year suburban do you have? It may be because of that stupid gas saving feature

x2 on what kranny said, ive had to do it in shop class to see if the alternator still was good, it charged at 14v and once on a load it sped up to 14.6.

some newer cars have ECU controlled voltage regulators.

This is what I meant

My suburban is a 2006 it's the first year of the LTZ edition It is the 2 pin that does regulate the voltage, but say my voltage is at 13.7 and I roll up all 4 windows, and have the heat on n shit tryn to put a load on it goes down to 13.3 and doesn't go up till I let off the switches... Maybe it will be ok when I hook up the MLA and the other 2 alts...?

The only reason I freaked out is bc last night the truck read 14.8 all night, but I was thinking to my self that may have been bc the new battery wasn't fully charged, the resting voltage on the battery before I put it in was 12.1 and now the resting voltage with the truck off is 13.2 so I'm guessing that may have been what the computer thought was a "load"???

Thanks guys!

Btw I'll be at Casper sat most likely but maybe Sunday too? Not completely sure on that
