SoCaLBaMF
Just to throw this out here. A friend of mine recently came into some money and went out and broke the bank with a home theater system. He bought B&W speakers and I noticed that they all have dimples on their flared ports. Not sure what the purpose of this is or what it does in practice, but if a company like that does it there may well be some merit to the idea: In other news I was inspired by a few of the ideas in this thread and built a new box right after using some strategicaly placed flares. I missed my tuning by about 10hz on the low side, but it turned out to be the best sounding box I've ever built. It was total fail on the meter since it brought my tuning down about 16/17 cycles below my proper peak, but was definitely worth the wood. The dimples serve the same purpose as they do on a golf ball... less air drag. I believe I saw Mythbusters do an experiment but they used a car, covered it in clay, put a bunch of dimples on it (it looked like a car golf ball pretty much) and it did have less wind resistance and better gas mileage. 2004 Bagged Trailblazer (4)18" Sundown Nsv3s (4) Taramps HD10000s, Taramps DSP3000, Lanzar opti 250x2, AB 100x4 (2)DC power SP 270s, (14)XS Power d3100s, (1)d6500
fecupe2001
In my opinion, the easiest way to find about about this, it´s someone that owns a TL and have some free time, can buy a regular 4" aeroport and a 4" aero with dimples, and test them against each other on a box that uses a single 4" aero, that should be nice, i can´t do it since i´m outside of the US and wold be very expensive for me I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains. fecupe2001
I didn´t tried on this topic, but i´ve done it in the past and i don´t see any difference on the TL, i guess you see a raise/drop on the termlab is just because of the displacement and that´s pretty much it, in other words, the change should be seen mostly on a subwoofer with a lot of displacement wich changes the internal space of the box a lot if you invert it I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
