Ba-baa-daa! And someone who knows has spoken. The first thing every sound company did when the BOSE 801 was realeased was buy shitloads of them to stack/array them. Funnily enough, they sounded like crap and feed back. And they do that becuase they are extremely mid heavy. The older generation like it. Most (not all) younger folk do not. Personal preference really. I just want flat 20/20 response to stop feedback. Alpine, grab that for the price. Worst comes to worse, you still have a perfectly good stereo system, BOSE or not. A common chamber enclosure can be slightly more or less effecient than a dual chamber or multiple chamber design, depending on who or how it was designed. However, pray that one woofer does not fail at high volume as if it does, it will act as a radiator and raise the enclosure volume, effectively cancelling what the intact driver is doing. This rise in enclosure space will drop the resonant frequency, and your other sub will mechanically destroy itself. For safety's sake, devide it. In direct response to your question, allow for at least one to one and a half driver spaces between them. Cheers, Mick

The largest danger with cold weather regarding drivers is condensation on the voice coil. Enough condensation can provide a sufficient environment for a short circuit and can also damage or destroy the glue holding the voice coil to the former. As Bibby has mentioned, just warm them up gradually. This will provide ample time for the coils to get nice and warm whilst running dry. If you can afford it, use a battery charger to keep the electrical up and constantly play very low levels of noise through the drivers when not using the vehicle. This constant noise will keep the coils warm and will prevent condensation, however I know that it is not always practical in the automotive environment. Cheers, Mick

A larger voice coil allows for improved heat disspation, even weight and drive on the cone and helps prevent cone resonances. Older drivers from the 60's and 70's mostly had very small coils (usually 1.5/2" on 15" drivers) and as a result have very 'ringy' cones that tend to resonate during normal use. A larger coil, through the acts of heat dissapation and power handling, reduces annoying, and for car audio concerns volume losing, Power Compression. The Ramsdell Pro Audio BP-SD21, 21" Band Pass Subwoofer - 'The Sub Engine' has some of the lowest power compression figures in the industry thanks to it's 6" voice coil. Cheers, Mick

If someone has your IP, it isn't that big of a deal at all. In fact, nearly all forum posts on most forums are IP logged. You just have to be worried if this person knows how to access machines unlawfully. Make sure your firewall is up, strong and running well. Encrypt personal information, password files with different passwords (that have certain degrees of complexity) and make sure anti-virus is up to date. Plus, you have a dynamic IP. That means that it will change every specific time frame. Unlike us suckers with Staic IP's, you are quite safe. From what everyone in the Live Sound industry has told me, unless you want to be doing studio recording and studio recording only, SAE is not the go. If you do want to be mixing for albums, films etc. then SAE is right where you want to be man. If you want to be mixing Live Sound, do not go to SAE or any 'schools', just get into the business straight up. On the other hand, if you want to be doing repairs on equipment, designing euq. then Electrical Engineering is where it's at. Cheers, Mick

Just to answer your last to questions and to defend a product; 1) The XTi 2000 is an amplifier made by Crown Audio. In this case, I would highly reccommend you do not get a XTi2000. I would reccommend a Crown MacroTech MA-5002Vz or the MA-3600Vz for genuine multiple 1k woofers. 2) Behringer recieves un-neccessary negative feedback from people who have not used their products before. It works fine, just do not expect it to do anything more than they say it will. However, for what you require in this situation, the Behringer products are not the answer. They will not deliver the power you require. 3) Uhhhhhh.......yeah, $189 is definately not enough for a 2k amp.

Introduce her to some Primus. They are a very bass driven band with Les Claypool providing the force for most of the songs with his slapping technique. She may not like them, as they are a bit strange, but the strong presence of bass and the overall talent should be some good driving music for her. Cheers, Mick
