  1. hmmm. Glad I don't live in Sarasota, but I have a feeling it's fixing to happen here also. Guess I'll have to call a cop when I get awaken at midnight by a cops radio blaring out so loud it'd wake the dead. Hmmm.. Citizens arrest and impound on a cop car for being too loud with his radio. Now that'd be something to hear about.
  2. My team mate knows about getting beat with his own equipment since I have done it 3 times in a row. hehehe There is a good outcome of getting beat. It makes you want to do better. It gives you a goal, or the next step of your original goals. Take me, for example. I went from Street A to Street Max 3-4 within one season, just cause I got pissed that I got beat. Now I'm in Bassrace 140-149.9 and fixing to move up to the 150-159.9 class, just cause I'm tired of getting beat. Think of it as a learning lesson.
  3. I know what and how you feel. I have 70-80% use of my left index finger due to a table saw. The nerves grew back, but the tendon did not, so I can't use it like I should be able to. I also have a sciatic never problem in the left leg due to a burst disc sitting on the nerve. Only way to fix it is to have an operation. The operation is simple and inexpensive, but, if the doctor/surgeon slip just a little bit, I'll not walk again. I've decided to live with the problem. I keep telling my better (worse) half that I'll be in a wheel chair before I'm 45. I honestly believe that is gonna happen. Just keep your head up. I still try to do the things I have always done, however, I do it a little bit safer. Right now, I could bend to pick up something like a sheet of paper off the floor, and never get back up. I just got to watch how I do it and take my time. It's hell getting old.
  4. 87 to 12volt positive. 86 to headunit remote turn on wire. 85 to ground. 30 to the accessories (amps, eqs, whatever). I just had to do this to mine since one of my amps takes too much amperage to turn on than what the headunit provides. I would not jump from amp to amp. It's all right for some like 2 amps, but anything more than that could cause problems. With the relay inline you'll have 30/40 amps to play with instead of the .1 to .5 or whatever low number the headunit has on that wire (it's not a lot)
  5. In a perfect world the Big 3, power, and ground should all be the same size wire. At least that is my understanding, which may be wrong. I'd go ahead and do 1/0 throughout the whole thing and be done with it.
  6. There was a couple incidents here in Jax, Fl about the headlight thing. This was back in the mid 90s though. I'd have to put is as true, but, what happened here was probably just some kids/wannabes/punks wanting people to think it's true.
  7. You won't see much gain from a 4.3 to a 305. Get a 350 or better. You'll want to stick to around the same year of your Astro to do it easily. Not sure what year your Astro is. Just about all the accessories from the 4.3 will mount to the 350 without any problems. (The 4.3 is a 350 without 2 cylinders, btw). The swap isn't hard at all to do, from what I understand. The tranny will mount right to the new engine. Hopefully you have a earlier model Astro (1985 to 1994, I believe). The front end on them are bolted together. The newer models are welded. You'll probably drop the front anyway. Oh well, that's my 2 cents. Easiest swap to do and will take about 1 weekend if you know what you're doing.
  8. Yup, full head of hair. It was darker than that the other day. He sleeps like I do. He like the same types of music. He has even made the same facial expressions I make. But I'm still going to get a DNA test as soon as I can afford it. Not just for peace of mind, but for legality reasons if needed. Damn tests are expensive, from $299 up to $1k. I found out the home kits are not court legal. That sucks as they are pretty cheap. Guess that's why
  9. Here's a pic for you all. I told his mom he doesn't look like me. Don't ask what happened.
  10. Every one except for 2 has been trophies. 1 was a certificate and another was a necklace type thing, like a gold medal you'd get for the Olympics. 1 was $100 cash, but it wasn't a sanctioned event (valu pawn event). I think I even won a headunit at one event, but it also was a sanctioned event.
  11. 8 SPLX -54s on 2 xxx-6500d amps That's my goal by the end of this season. I'm halfway there now.
  12. Thanks all. I did forget to mention that he did come early. He was not due until the 7th of next month. Brandy had to go into the ER Thursday night due to contractions and some other problems. She had told me earlier that day that they were going to induce labor next Tuesday due to high blood pressure. Anyways, he is 10 days early and healthy. Had a little problem with his sugar levels being low, but that was taken care of on the first feeding. He and she is now trying to get the breast feeding thing down pat and it seems to be going real good. My other baby will be arriving at around 1pm today. It is a soundstream xxx-4000d amplifier. Downgrading from the 6500d for a little while. So 2 babies in 2 days. Life is good, I think.
  13. Last night (4-25-08) at around 8:30pm a new person was brought into this world. His name is Charles William Buys (named after my dad and I). He weighed in at 8 pounds 13oz. I can't remember the length, but all the nurses were commenting on how big a baby he is. I don't have any pics, yet, as I left from work and went straight to the hospital yesterday. Brandy had to have a C Section due to the baby not dropping and her not dilating like she should be. She stay at 4cm for 12+ hours. They manually broke her water and induced labor, which still seemed like it took forever. When the baby was pulled out, he waved to everybody. Then proceeded to piss on everybody standing around him (nurses and doctor). Luckily I was standing on the other side of the curtain looking over. He is quiet as hell. Only time he seems to start crying is when other babies start. I believe he is feeling them to stfu since when they quit he quits and lays back with a smartassed grin on his face. Like he owns the whole room. I'll get pics a.s.a.p. I have to go pick up my new amp in a few, then go back to the hospital to spend some time with him and Brandy.
  14. I wonder if my team mate got his this week. He was supposed to be getting the new BTLs, unless he changed his mind. Subs definitely looks weird, but... it's an Fi product, it'll do the job and do it quite nicely. I just hope it lives up to Steve's tort.... err.... testing. If he is impressed with them ,you can bet everybody else (that runs Fi) will be also. Can't wait to see more pics and vids No I gotta go pick up my new amp.
  15. I'd be there, but I have an addition to my family that I have to take care of. Born yesterday at around 8:30pm.
  16. I've got the Dremel XPR 400. As long as you don't try to cut the hole in one pass, the bit will last. I usually do it in three or four passes, without pausing. Right now I have to replace the collet (whatever it's called). It broke when I used it to cut out a hole to frame a window. Yes, I put my tools through so much hell, I'm surprised they last
  17. 19.2volt at harbor freight I bought that one a few months ago. It's actually an alright drill, but the case it comes in is a piece of crap. It takes about an hour to fully charge a dead battery, but it seems to last quite a while on a full charge. Every blue Ryobi drill I've had has shorted out in the trigger May also want to check out the Hyundai cordless drills. I've heard some great things about them
  18. I currently run a 16v system in the van. It isn't really that hard of a thing to do. The ground is going right to the frame, right beside the 12volt ground. Alternator charges at 19.5volts (it's a powermaster 350amp with variable regulator). 14 8volt golf cart batteries. It ain't the prettiest setup and is heavy as hell. Each battery weighs in around 60lbs. 4/0 welding cable from alternator + to the battery bank +, 4/0 welding cable from battery bank - to frame. Stinger voltage meter to keep checks on the system, calibrated with a digital voltage meter to make sure it read correct. At idle voltage drops to around 17volts. At least I've never seen it below that. At 2k rpm, voltage is at 19.5volts. Powermaster told me that 19.5volts from the alternator is perfect for charging the battery bank. Not a good pic of wiring. What the batteries were sitting at when I first got them wired. They had been sitting for at least 6 moths, if I remember right. Van is not running. Sorry, don't have a pic of voltage when engine is running. One day I might finish building the back of the van, concentrating on the suspension right now.
  19. Subscribed.. Always looking for Astro/Safari builds in process. Thinking about ripping mine out and starting over.
  20. I may be there, gotta pick up some points and that is right after payday. Look for a black primered SoundStream Astro.
  21. Tried to get the ones I think are closest to you. http://termpro.com/asp/members2.asp?Who=13...ionID=415235131 http://termpro.com/asp/members2.asp?Who=13...ionID=415235131 http://termpro.com/asp/members2.asp?Who=13...ionID=415235131 http://sespl.informe.com/
  22. One tip for ya. Think outside the box. I can't remember where mine peaks at, but those numbers mentioned above seem about right. Gonna take a lot of money to get as loud as spl2k. And be thankful you have a newer model, you may get lucky and have the steel leaf springs instead of the fiberglass ones. I believe the fiberglass leaf springs were only on the vans until '90. The slider guide is a p.i.t.a. to works around.
  23. I don't get asked, except for the occasional, how many subs is that (you can clearly see it's only four). Sometimes they want to know how much power. The number one question is, "How much would it cost to build me a system like that?". I tell them it's too much Mainly cause I don't want to deal with them.
  24. My wall, unfinished at the time. Haven't got any newer pics since and fixing to rip it all out for a rebuild. Probably going with 8 subs.
