Tank's AMD Gaming rig
Maxim replied to theTank77's topic in Computer Talk - News, technology, advice
Go comment on mine! http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/121035-nzxt-gaming-desktop/ Nope I take PC's pretty seriously and sometimes people dont like what I say.. I know this industry all to well, and have been in several states competing in the OC'ing arena (06-07) Most people will argue back and forth with hardware debatable questions, and still not appreciate a "pro's" advice Aww. Well that's no fun! I understand what you're saying though. People go all out on one section of a build then skimp out on another. Gotta keep it balanced. -

From what it sounds like in the first post he's had it for a few months now. If he's been itching to build one, no point in waiting for some people. There's always gonna be bigger and better if you wait. Just sucks that it's not an AM3+ board that'll support Bulldozer. This build oddly confuses me. The RAM situation with the 2 2GB and the 2 4GB is odd enough, but in the pic I only see 3 sticks of RAM. Is the 4th stick missing the heatsink? How's the PhysX card running? I haven't seen an AMD card run with a dedicated PhysX card before, although it sounds like an interesting concept. I've also read stuff about how having a high-end Nvidia GPU as a main card and and a lower end Nvidia card just for PhysX can bottleneck the main card. Have you tested this at all. GET AN SSD SON!!! EDIT: Ninja'd by OP -

^^^ this. It may only be 12 volts, but it'll be more than enough amperage to do some damage. -
<rant> ...I had my Cheap-ass Sony bookshelf system at school with me and got the RA called on me on more than one occasion. IDK if you've lived in a dorm before but people will hate you if you have a retarded loud stereo. You'll meet one or two kids who like it, but you'll meet ten times as many who don't. </rant> A single 8" woofer on 200-300 is more than enough to fill a dorm room with sound. A t-line is your best shot for loud on lower power. If you want to go traditional ported or can make it work in a t-line design, sub and port down in a room, especially one with hard floors, is the best. If that's not do-able, at least sub or port down is ideal, and have the other face toward a wall if it's on a corner.

Adjustable sub box

Cool concept on paper, but from what I've seen on here and designed myself it's nowhere near the same as a box designed and built proper for a specific sub and vehicle. -

Pepper spray is totally legal here in Mass with an FID card. You can get a Firearms ID Card at as young as 15 with parental consent. We still suck compared to other states but it's not like everything's illegal here. -
I'll have to pop the fan off and take pics. It took a slim fan (Xigmatek 200mm) to fit. Normal 200mm's are 30mm thick, this one's only 20mm. It's also got the holes half-drilled for the Phantom's side panel, which i guess NZXT designed to only take their 200mm fans by default. I did have to mod my case a bit though. Had to file away around the metal mounting tabs on the side door so my fan would sit in against the mesh. Also, couldn't fit the fan filter and still close the door, but not a huge deal because it pushes a TON of air. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow.

Hate to say, that's 2 6-core Xeons, not 2 6-core i7's. Similar, and still damn fast, but not the same. Meade's got the right idea. a 2600K and 2 580's is pretty close to the best money can buy for gaming right now. Very high overclock potential on both, and the only better way to go with the video cards is a 3- or 4-way SLI with 580's. 16Gb of RAM is enormous, I haven't found a way to max out my 8GB other than Prime95. And that Samsung SSD is fast as shit. Phenomenal build, Mr. Meade.

3DMark 11 is the latest for DirectX 11. a few peeps still run 3DMark 06 and 3DMark Vantage for DX 9 and 10. Also, the Unigine Heaven Benchmark (I think it's on 2.5 now) is a great one to test higher-end cards with it's heavy tessellation. You won't have issues with 2 580's. My 6970 barely stutters until I crank tessellation.

Better start overclocking that i7! Mine's at 5 on my Antec 920. You should be able to get there (or at least close) on the Vantage. People are going over 4 on stock cooling. It's a joke to overclock. 1. Up the multiplier 2. Up the voltage to where it needs to go 3. Run Intel Burn Test 4. Run Prime95 5. Return to step 2 if unstable 6. ??? 7. Profit!!!

I always just used Audacity's built-in export as MP3 feature. You have to download the encoder and then re-open audacity, but it enables the option to File->Export and then choose MP3 File in the dropdown. Also gives you the ability to add song metadata (track names, artist, etc.) before encoding -

http://support.vzw.com/faqs/International%20Services%20and%20Roaming/faq_international_text_messaging.html#item1 from what it looks like they have an option to add it to your plan, so if you don't have that option they'll probably charge you per message -
