It depends if they are coaxial speakers or component speakers. Component speakers have separate tweeters while coaxials have tweeters in the center of the bigger speaker.

What are your max dimensions? Design and build a box for both twelves, but make it a two chambered box. It'd make a lot more sense.

I would make a box for both twelves and just make it separate chambered... Then once you get the other one, you could pretty much just screw it in and be done already

Bag it. You're going to want the ability to raise it back up at the flip of a switch after a drop that severe

You'll be much happier once you build a box. As for the door open thing, it changes the airspace. Every car reacts different depending on the setup.
