    prob a bad unit. Most of the alpines i have used my DD-1 on didn't distort at all. At least not till the very last few notches like most pioneers, if at all. gotcha. this is a crazy perfect example to illustrate how this equipment can be useful for more than JUST gain setting. too bad people will only see the SMD name and auto-hate it. so..... let them..... I know man, I just feel like if people stopped worrying about petty shit, how far could this hobby be advanced?

    I would leave it on, it's not just for looks, it helps seal the sub. Just use a double baffle and cut the 2nd baffle hole to the putter dimension of the sub.
