Thanks RooTxBeer Honestly it was a VERY slight smell. I know what a fully blown coil smells like and this did not smell nearly that strong. I did stop and check the sub and amp after I smelled it and neither were hot, only a little warm, and like I said above it did not get any worse

Any way you could point me in the direction of a good tutorial for this? I have always set by ear and it has always worked for me, but I am always willing to try something that works better.

RCA voltage is 4 volts. I have no way to set the gain accurately. I can get a hold of a dmm but I have read that it is not a great way to set your gains

Thanks man. I I figured it was ok. I bumped for a good 2 hours and it didnt get any stronger, just thought I would double check It was an honest mistake. I had a long ass day and It has been over a year since I've heard any bass, but yes it did sound a little weird.

I just recently bought a skar vvx-12 d4 from the end of the year sale. Just got it hooked up today and rode around bumpin for a bit. I noticed a very faint coil smell. Is this normal for a new woofer? Equipment is in my sig. I have no way to tell If I'm clipping but the sub nor the amp were hot, only barely warm. Amp settings: LPF: 40 hz ( Lowest it will go) Subsonic: About 28-30 hz I think ( range is 5-50 hz and its set a little over half) Gain: A tad over a 1/4 Bass Boost: Completely off Bass Boost Frequency: Completely off HU settings: LPF: 70 hz HPF (Front and Back): 150hz Subwoofer Level: 15/15 Bass Boost: Off

Definitely one of the best looking woofers out there I think. The only thing I can personally compare it to is the Fi ssd I had and I prefer the vvx. I cant compare the performance yet as I still have to order my amp and get a box built. But the box will be done within the next week. Gonna go pick the wood up tomorrow.

Just arrived. Skar has some fast service. Total time from when I ordered it to when it arrived at my door was 3 days. This thing looks and feels like a little beast. On with the pics. Box arrive in one piece with no holes or rips Here it is in the clam shell it arrives in. It's not cheap thin foam either. Out of the box. This thing just looks sexy and I love the full dish cone Pic of the terminals and the motor. Dat ass Size comparison with a can of dew Boot off Tiny crack in the motor I ordered this from the end of year/refurbished sale that Skar has going on. I think I was lucky enough to get a reconed one as I can still smell the ca glue. It is stiff but moves like it should. The only thing that concerns me is the crack in the magnet pictured above. It shouldnt hurt it I dont think. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Skar gets an A+ in my book for their fast service. Cant wait to get this hooked up and slamming. Thanks again Kevin
