I was wondering if anyone has had experience making a jl audio 13w7 4th order bandpass for 2 subs. I have tried to use the box calculators online but I cant figure it out. I have also emailed jl audio several times to see if they would know what the chamber sizes would be but so far havent recieved any responses from them. I am putting the subs in the trunk of a 1965 chevelle convertible so I would like to bring the port into the cabin. Im not sure how having no cabin pressure will affect the sound so im thinking tuning lower then the normal 45hz, maybe like 35 hz or so. The specs on the subs are: qes : .476 qms: 7.517 qts: .448 fs: 23.5hz vas: 104liters xmax: 32mm sd: .0693m sq Pe: 1500 no: .269% Dual 1.5 ohm vc I have a huge trunk so size isnt an issue. Some people were saying 4th orders were a 2:1 ratio ported/sealed but I have also read that isnt always the case. So if anyone can help with the box calculator that would be sweet.

Isnt the 9512f from about 2006? Kind of old. I think they are making the i models now.

Yeah thats was a very helpful thread, 2:1 ratio at least gets people pointed in the right direction, Ill still talk to the manufacturer and research the ratio a little more to get more of a concensus.

So if people use 300amp fuse for 1/0 how much fusing is required for 2/0? Do they even make a bigger fuse then 300 or do you have to stack 2 fuses on top of each other?

I always used to just start the car pull the positive cable off the battery and if it runs the alt is good, if it dies the alt is bad. Its ghetto I know.

Well yeah thats the first thing i did also was to check to see if the sub will work. I used this formula from somewhere i forget. (EBP= 1/qes * FS). And with that number it says 100 or more is ported or 6th order. 50 or less is sealed or 4th order and between 50-100 is any but im guessing they wont work as well but still work. The problem im having probably like you is getting the correct chamber size and port size. I tried using the software online but I cant figure it out, so im going to bug the manufacturer till they give me chamber sizes.

Some people say 1/4" fiberglass = 3/4 mdf, I have heard its 3/8". I saw on an old forum here a guy braced fiberglass with cut sections of rope saturated with resin to create more curves inside the box. I made a set of all fiberglass enclosures for my truck they turned out well and now im working on a giant box for my chevelle so I can mold it to the floor and trunk dimensions. It is friggin expensive though, im guessing 10 gallons of resin and as much as a couple hundred yards of thin mat. I think they build the base from wood because its much easier and cheaper.

Painted boxes look nice also. Easy to keep clean as well.

I have heard polyester fill slows down sound waves in a box. Maybe stuff a little in and see how it works.

Looks like you got an internal volume of 4.75 cu ft box. ive read that its 13-15cu inch of port space for each cubic foot of box. So it looks like between 61.75 and 71.25. sq inch of port space. This is just a guess based on stuff i read, not sure about it though. maybe a 6" port 12" long?. Thats just a guess though man from what ive read. Plus dc audio lists the suggested ported box size at 3.5 cubic feet for a 15" so not sure if box is too big?

Dude you are tripping, its not a vs thread, and its not a what would be louder thread either. Its a what sub will work for this enclosure type the best thread. I dont see how that breaks any rules. I wouldnt want to put a sub made for a ported enclosure in a sealed type box because its not meant for that.

My bad, I figured since it was a specific set specs for this type of box , there would be a best for the application.

So im thinking the re xxx may be better than the w7's but the re xxx's weigh like 93lbs each, I would hate to try bolting those inside a box.
