  1. Did I argue against the accuracy of the AD-1 or AMM-1? Nope. *I* happen to be one of those people with the proper tools, so yeah... I take offense to the way clamping is getting shit on in this vid. If the vid was just about how awesome the AMM-1 is, I'd have just said, "Awesome. Can't wait to get mine." But the focus of the video is how far off the clamp is, when in reality... it's not.
  2. I'm not bashing the dyno or the AMM-1. Or even taking up for clamping for that matter, but the way the test was done using the dyno for the clamp portion isn't the best way to illustrate the difference. Cody retested the amp. He videoed the clamped portion this time. This is a screen shot of the 900w clamp result. Pay particular attention to the wave on the scope-meter The dyno and AMM-1 stop reading at 1% THD. Does that look like 1% to you? Yeah... me neither. This is much closer. This is a screen shot of the same vid, but while the wave is still clean. That's 570w and MUCH closer to what the dyno and AMM-1 are seeing. Clamping is flawed because of the phase angle on reactive loads. But he isn't using a reactive load here, is he?
  3. Oh... like, troubleshooting help? I thought you wanted someone to go knock on their door or something. Nvm. Carry on. Good luck.
  4. Lmao. This *isn't* bashing them? Whom do you reckon is going to help outside of Mechman?
  5. sd i don't need right now but it'll be important when i start designing my t-line. and i just thought because of the huge surrounds and stuff it might be a little different then most other subs. and for the displacement i wasn't sure. i tried this once calculator where i gave it the motor dimensions and stuff and it calculated like .45 so i wasn't sure what to trust. It's a custom tooled basket so as NOT to give up any Sd due to the comically large surround. The sub is actually closer to a 16"
  6. I thought the xmax was 30mm? Do you really need Sd for the model? Approximate it. Should be in the neighborhood of 153sq in. Displacement... .25 should be close enough. Do you really need it down to the hundreth? Lol.
  7. I think some of you and your buddies grossly overestimate how much power these subs are seeing on a daily basis. Lol. But I'll agree with Jacob on this one (obviously). You'd definitely get them into trouble mechanically before you thermal it on clean power. And mechanical limits are more easily recognizeable. But clipping is a bitch. I've gotten one stinky on 2k clipped before it reached mechanical limits.

  9. What do you mean? Edit: if you mean what are the benefits of caps vs batts.... here's clamp result on a D5. The 13v test is on batts. The 15v on caps and caps only. RD D5 -13v - 3,898w @ 11.1v -15.5v - 5,355w @ 13v
  10. Yeah.... no. I know this isn't going to embed correctly, but here's my Zero on OEM electrica lwith (2) banks of caps (stock alt and OEM batt) at 1 ohm beating the crap out of a 2,500rms sub. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rLl6nOpMuQ
  11. Oh... now that changes things. That's a no brainer. Get another Zero. ... And caps for chrissakes.
  12. Probably ~ 20% more power across the board. The Zero is a beast, but unless you're in USACi and chasing tenths, I can't really say I'd pay the difference. The Zero.1 is the same price as the .5 and much better suited for daily duty. You kinda have to run the balls off of the .5 whereas the .1 is more of a 1 ohm amp and for "street" voltages. Now that I think about it... I have actually clamped the Zero.5 once on a batt. Stock CRX alt, one d3400 underhood. 1 ohm rising to 3.2ohms. 2,300w @ 11.5v. Yay.
  13. So... b2 zero.5 would likely put out more? Yes. Won't be night and day to the ear, but it's a pretty solid gain on the meter. Funny... I've never clamped the Zero on batts.
  14. I have quite a bit of experience with the board in the CT2.5's. 4k burps (clamp method) on batts if you keep rise to under 1.5 or so is about the best you can hope for. That's still 8k though. I'd want at least (3) solid G31's for that. But depending on your listening/demo'ing habits, I bet you could get by with a 3400 underhood and a pair of 3100 or 3000's in the back.
  15. Holy hell. 16 pages of beating a dead horse to come up with.... zero new information. One thing I hadn't considered that Tony touched on (and that is annoying me now) is the markup. Yeah... aluminum is cheaper. And it very welll should be; becuase copper is trading ~ $3.25/lb right now while aluminum is more like $0.80/lb. That makes copper 4x as valuable yet CCA is only ~ 1/2 the price. Those bastards!!! CCA should be like, 50 cents a foot, damnit. In my world... I use what's close or what's cheap. And that's usually welding cable. It's f'n wire. I could not give two shits. But then again... I don't try to pass 500A through a single 20ft run of 1/0. I applaud the educational vids. They're sorely needed for some, redundant for some but uniteresting to most. Or is it disinteresting? Wake me when you get to the 600 level courses.
  16. He could save himself a ton of time if he just snapped pics of the results and posted them. Especially since the YT vids aren't getting a lot of views. I test amps all the time and it's a bit of an ordeal. I stopped doing vids and just post screen shots and results now. With just pics and text, it's maybe an hour's worth of time. To shoot, edit and upload vids... it's a much larger time investment. Honestly... I just want the results anyway. I'm an amp whore and I don't like watchin his vids. Just post the results. He really needs to start a thread like mine with all of his dynos. I have a huge thread of clamps on another forum. I hear about how helpful it is all the time to have them all in one place in text format. It would be a pain to navigate all the vids to find an amp you're looking for. Maybe one of you guys can go through all of his vids and compile them into a thread? List all the amps and results in a big ass list. Update it everytime he tests an amp. [Edit: and why is everybody so concerned with testing old school amps? i don't get it. Are you guys really that interested to see what an Orion 225 does? It's just not very relevant anymore. Not enough for him to waste time on anyway.]
  17. Holy DC love in here. No way this thing does some of the numbers y'all are guessing. Lol. 3,854w Maybe.
  18. Umm... I wasn't bashing. I am genuinely interested in the team's competiton record or accomplishments. I would think that prospective members would want to know whom they have on their team. I know I would.
  19. This isn't hate- just a curiosity thing... What kind of accomplishments has Skar? Like, championships or awards or records... loudest/lowest or whatever. I know some of y'all have to compete. Or is it more of a "street" team?
  20. There are a lot of things that contribute to the inaccuracy of clamps, but you eliminated all of them that you could. The biggest one (usually) is the use of peak/hold. But the really important one that we just can't eliminate is the phase angle between voltage and amperage on a reactive load. You can account for it with a scope that reads them sperately and calculate the angle, but who the eff is gonna do that? Oh well. Such is life. Nice test.
  21. You say you're having voltage drop... what's your voltage dropping to? What's it charging at? How do you know the subs are clipping from "lack of power?"
