Problem w/ inline fuseholder

Is there a trick to putting power wire into an inline fuse holder? It accepts 1/0 gauge wire, but for the life of me, I cannot get the wire into the metal end without half of the wires mushrooming out and making it impossible to get the wire in enough for the screw thing to clamp down on it.

I've tried everything from twisting the wire to cutting some of the inside wire to make it easier, but nothing is working?

Am I just a retard who can't do something so simple or is there some sort of trick to do it right?

check to see if there are metal inserts that make the hole smaller. you have to take the set screw out and the insert will come out. it just makes it accept a smaller gauge and the 0 gauge. more universal. if not then you can cut some strands off till it fits. its just not the best way...

it happens...some of us have tricks to doing it, while others just trim a couple strands. if it isn't what JaM suggested, I usually wrap electrical tape around half the strands and half the insulation so they are tightly packed. then slip the end in and unwrap the tape.

heres my little trick. its a pain in the ass just to warn you. i take a box knife (or anything sharp for that matter) and make 2 cuts on the sheeting of the wire. the first cut i do is at maybe 2/8 back from where the end of the wire is. once you cut that take off that little bit of the sheeting. then make another cut around the wire that is 1/4 of a inch back from the end of the wire but DO NOT i repeat DO NOT take this off the wire. insert the 2/8 of the exposed wire into the fuse holder (make sure there are no reducers in there and that the screw for it is up all the way) and then once you get it in there, cut sideways on that remaining piece of the 1/4 inch you just cut out a few moments ago and then grab that off and toss it to the side. shove the wire in the holder all the way and then screw it down. its kinda hard to explain but if you want i can take pics of it tomorrow night with my 8ga wire i have to setup for my speakers.

the electrical tape trick mentioned before would prob be your best bet but its kind of a pain because you can get the wire strands to stick to the tape and have them come out with you when you take the tape off.

on the exposed wire slide your fingers out off the end of wire while your doing that twist the exposed wire in same direction you see it through jacket. When you see it tight enough guide it straight in and continue to push wire into holder while you tighten the set screw.

to be honest sometimes with what crunkjuice said will not help you. i have had this happen to me with my 4ga power cable i used. when you twist it, it would bunch it up a little more and not get it to fit in so i had to twist it in the opposite direction that it was in the wire to make the strands totally straight to get it to fit in just right. so be forewarned that it may and may not work. i didnt have it work with my 4ga cable but my 8ga cable it worked perfectly fine on.

hold the wire at an angle and put one side in the hole. on the other side, use your fingers to compact the wire until it fits and you can slide the terminal the rest of the way on.

one guy on here uses solder, a twist tie would work as well, and wrap it around the wire. that will pull it all tight and still slide up and down the wire as you put the terminal on.
