Snake Eye Security Screws

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried Snake Eye screws? Was looking to use these for securing my BTL down in my box. Just looking for little security add ons, so I won't have to worry about theives as much. Thanks

I would not want to take the chance of a driver slipping off and killing a surround.

honestly man, I wouldn't even bother. if they already got in your car, most likely they'll just crowbar it (either that or take the whole damn thing). Id save up and get a good alarm.

Lowes has decent wood screws with different types of heads. Honestly anything besides a Phillips or flat head is better then nothing. Assuming they can't take the whole box. And a recone is cheaper then a new sub if they go ^ that route

yeah I know, this is just until I can afford a security system. I have the box bolted down to my trunk frame already.. where I live people don't really steal systems, but where my friends are from they do. I just want my stuff to be safe.. some of my 'mutual' friends are sketchy and I don't trust them anyway.. I looked at parts express, and those security screws have bad reviews on them stripping right away. These snake eyes look pretty reliable, but I don't know where I could find them online

Okay I'll check lowes out. And i Know as long as they can't take my whole sub.. Im fine with just paying for a recone instead of a whole new sub. I should have said that before people started telling me to just get an alarm system..lol. And no, my sub box is bolted and locked down to my trunk

For like 4 bucks you can get a set of bits with everything under the sun in it.

Are you really that worried about someone running off down the street with a BTL under their arm? If they have long enough with the vehicle to unscrew a big-ass sub from the box then you're pretty screwed (excuse the pun) anyway.

EDIT: If they get pissed off they'll jam a crowbar/claw hammer under it and just pull hard. Then it's a battle between the MDF, the screw and the basket... and since you've probably built a strong box and you're gonna use big screws, you'll just come out in the morning to a smashed up sub.

Haha. Well it is an N2.. which is only like 45-50 lbs. Not the regular 70 pound beast. and where could I find the set of bits for 4 bucks?

I prefer to use Robertson screws (square hole), since they don't strip as easily as snake eyes, and are difficult to remove with common tools...thieves don't usually carry a robertson bit, but they all carry phillips and allen bits
