My LED cinema display shows no sign of purple tinting

It is not just a terrible hard color, but I bet if you watched it side by side with the same TV in the standard LCD version, you would see a difference. It is worse on some TVs than others, and they are finding ways to improve it.

I work at Best Buy's home theater department as well. Everything CVX said is true except the credit card. They do everything in their power to screw you. 25% interest is ftl.

just gonna throw in my input to see if it helps at all. i snatched up a sanyo 50" plasma from walmart on black friday for $450. its only a 720p, but really, from over 5 feet away, there isnt much of a difference in 720 and 1080 (IMO). plasmas have a 600 hz refresh rate. and mine doesnt have any issues with over heating. its got a smooth, clear picture and walmarts still selling them for $600. so its in your price range, not the best brand in tvs, but still somewhat quality. has good picture, and you said you wanted 42" or more. 50" would be a great size if you want a big tv in the dorm.

I've got a 53" samsung LED and it don't have a blue/purple color. LED is awesome.

Just throwing this out there, most (and I mean nearly all) video games are done in 720p.

Ok well seeing that I'll be in college for 4 years starting this August i'm starting to look into getting a new tv for the dorm(being a dorm it can't be huge.) so i've been looking around on bestbuy.com and other places i just don't know what to really look for. Is there a HUGE difference between 1080p and 720p? And the Tv will be at least 42 inches, going to get the biggest one i can afford/fit most likely, and it will be a plasma/LCD. The 1080p numbers etc are the only things i really know about with TV's..most i wanna spend is like $550-600..just looking for some guidance..

i would check at your school you are looking into going with crime rate in the dorms. Do they have problems with pep breaking into dorms and stealing things. I go to south alabama and we are always having problems with pep stealing shit in dorms like computers, tv mostly, and cell phones/money. just dont want to see you drop $600 on a tv when its in danger if getting snatched. if it was me, I would just get the cheapest 42'' tv you can find. you gone be studying anyway lmao

i agree with you to an extent. yes, the interest rate is very high (as are most other retail credit cards) and it's not very practical in certain situations. but with this situation it's very practical. if you spend over $529 in home theater you have 2 years to pay off the purchase before you are charged a penny in interest. so as long as you don't make any late payments, you won't be charged interest at all.

but in this situation the OP has it made. i wish my parents would do pay for that kinda stuff.

But LED TVs have a natural blue tint. Before someone disagrees, read about it, then go watch them side by side with a regular LCD. Face tones will have a slight purple look.

If you buy a extended warranty, go with Squaretrade. Much cheaper with a 30% off coupon (check retailmenot.com for coupon code). I will NEVER buy another best buy warranty after they screwed me on one of their "it covers everything" plans.

I get Panasonic at employee pricing (dirt cheap), and I bought 3 Samsungs at Christmas. Samsungs are great.

Edit - I miss stated purple tint. It is blue, which makes face tones look slightly purple.

not all warranties are created equal. i would much rather be able to deal with a local store about a warranty than try to deal with people over the phone. i would also prefer to be able to call a tech and have them come to me instead of dragging the product to them.

i hope the salesperson didn't actually tell you "it covers everything". if that was the case, i can understand your frustration of being misinformed. however, you should have received a terms and conditions pamphlet for the protection plan. in that pamphlet it clearly states what is and is not covered under the plan. by purchasing the plan, you have agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions stated.

Bro, i got a 42" 1080i Dynex from best buy for like $469.xx Great TV...kinda off brand, but it does the same as all the rest.

thats another thing i was wondering..does brand really matter?

@bakermanINC: there's a 1080p 46" Dynex on sale for $499 right now. somewhat of a better buy

@iKidwell: brand can matter quite a bit in larger tv's. that's why you will see more sonys, samsungs, LG's, etc. in larger tv's and you see more insignia and dynex in smaller tv's.

most people don't care too much about quality in smaller tv's. most of the time people buy small tv's as secondary tv's that will likely never see high def picture anyways.
