If I was in the market for an 18 and had an unlimited budget, I'd look at either T3 TSNS or the IA Warden. You'll need some serious power and a stout electrical for those to shine though, as I'm sure you're already aware of.

this is an opinionated thread so you are going to hear tons of different options...

here is mine....

biggest question is are you going for overall quality of sound, or for spl?

If you are looking for clean, reliable, almost bulletproof performance... I have an SMD 18 in my dodge ram right now and clamped it at 1500 watts and did a 148dB... plays from 20hz to 75hz with not an issue in the world, and it would love to have more power on it... :)

spl... different situation...

I'm in same boat as OP, I am moving up from 1000rms to 3000rms and now left wondering what to pair it with. I like the advice gives me things to stare at.

Look into the BTL N2 loaded I'm looking at that because its lighter than the others and if it can take the 3000rms daily it will be on. Good luck!!!

I've personally only ran the dc audio lvl4 xl and the mayhems, and both of those subs performed great, either would be a good choice, I just suggest maybe to up to a lvl 5 if you go with dc considering the wattage

im a groundpounder low tuning kind of guy. Numbers are fun but in reality, air movement and brutal lows is what i LOVE. I like the idea of the SMD too, does it like smaller enclosures? (i have about 11cubes to work with hehe)
