Simply, my truck has been converted to run a 14v system. It charges between 16.2-16.8 volts. Does anyone know the operating range for a Viper 5701. Non of my local Viper dealers can help and Directed has no direct contact info that i can find at least.

if you read the manual it says the voltages that it will operate at, think the highest they recommend is like 15.5

what about a few resistors with high tolerance in parallel to make a ~ .5 ohm load?

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=016-5

ten of these in parallel would = .5 ohms with a 100 watt rating

At 16.8v you would be at 14v after the resistor, and at 14v rest you would be at 11.7

that would work :P just make sure like you said, they are high tolerance, so they are gonna be some bigger sized resistors

The only problem i see is Door trigger inputs and trunk inputs will be read at 16v when a zone is closed/open

Wouldn't 16.2-16.8 volts be bad for the vehicles electrical system? Consider a step down module or 2.

CURRENT SYSTEM:

  • Alternator:
    1. Stock alt on mids/highs
    2. Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v
  • Batteries: (2) XS D1400s
  • Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks
  • Headunit: 80-PRS
  • Sub Amp: DC 5.0k
  • Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones
  • Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
  • Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4
  • Active Components:
    • Mids RE XXX 6.5c
    • Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar)
  • Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab.

No its fine, for my truck at least. Look at Mechman, they have several vehicles they run at these voltages with no problems. I don't have any issues until my voltage reaches around 17.3, that only happens on very cold mornings though.
