Help needed with slot port

Recommended Posts

**HOLY DOUBLE TOPIC BATMAN. THIS CAN BE ERASED PLEASE MOD**

I have a box that has the following dimensions:

17 height, 23 width, 16 depth.

After displacement its 2.61 cu ft.

I am trying to tune the port to 32 hz.

I cant seem to figure it out using torres or the 12v online slot port calc. I come up with 4" x 3" x 10"

Doesnt seem to be right....

Can someone chime in?

first off that port is way too small. try to get around 12-16 square inches of port area per cubic foot of box then find the port length from there.

I don't have access to a computer at the moment, but I'll try and help. That comes out to 12sqin of port, or roughly 5sqin per cube of port area. That is the reason the port only needs 10" to achieve a 32hz tuning.

You need more port area, roughly 12-16sqin per cube. With only 5sqin per, you are bound to have port noise.

Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks :)

I know thats why I am asking lol.

So how do I increase the port area? so my box should have approx 30 inches of port area.

Its a JBL GTi MKii 12"

Its getting a solid 1200 watts RMS, but that is irrelevant right now...

fs is 31.85 if that matters...

**edit**

I am figuring this out slowly I think...

10" x 3" is 30 square inches, then just calculate the depth after that?

But if I do that... then my port length has to much longer than I have space to do...

So whats the trick?

You increase the port area by increasing the port area, lol.

As Kidwell said below me, you can bend the port into a "L" shape.

i recently got a Pyle PL1590BL and i was building an enclosure for it tuned to 25 hz. i didn't have any tools to cut a circle so i hit it with a big hammer.

put your box dimensions into torres calculator then for example enter 10 for height and 3 for width and then enter different lengths until you reach your desired tuning.

Your port can make an L turn as long as the port wall stays the same distance away from the back of the box. (that may have sounded confusing but its almost common sense, so it shouldn't matter lol  )

Right. So I did 40" square, 10x4, and I couldnt even get it near 32 hz. I tried 13.5 x 3" and couldnt get it close either..

So hmm I need some help
