bassrace Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Well i have a pyle hu (i know) and my sub jacks (or rcas) were pinched so i cut them i didnt want a fire due to wires touching. So my question is, there is a white wire, a red wire and 2 wires thats not in a jacket (which i assume is the - wires). and in the new rcas i will be putting in their is a red wire a blue wire, a red wire with a black stripe, a blue wire with a black stripe and the a single wire not in the jacket, where does this wire go/do? Superjay Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I'm going to disagree with everyone here. I've been doing this MANY many years, and this is where I know better, plain and simple. Solder the connection, and make sure it's wrapped in TIGHT 3M electrical tape, or heat shrink. RCA plugs catch more noise than a solder joint, so hardwiring is ALWAYS a better solution. the only reason we typically stick to the plugs is that it's easier for the average person to connect...and nobody knows how to solder anymore. in your RCA's where you have a red and red with black, those are your signal wires for one side. use one for positive and one for negative. those wires are a twisted pair to reject noise so you'll have to test the other end to see which is which...I'm going to take a wild stab at it and say the one with black is the negative. the single wire is for grounding the head unit chassis to the amplifier chassis...use it. Thanks alot. But my hu only has 4 wires and the new monster cable rcas have the 5th wire any suggestions? Should i just leave the 5th wire alone? Superjay Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 that 5th wire is a ground wire. you connect it to the radio chassis and the amp ground to bring the ground potential of both to the same level...helps prevent ground loop feedback.
