G-Rad Posted August 21, 2011 Author Report Posted August 21, 2011 Can you buy/look at DC subs online? I'm sure. And newis1, thanks bro. kam311 Posted August 21, 2011 Report Posted August 21, 2011 Honestly obsidian audio is a new company so a the majority of the people on here havnt tried them. You really are not going to get a better sub for under $200. But I'm sure you would be happy with any sub mentioned on here. I just know that the OA's are very underrated at 600rms just like the SA12's are. And in my opinion they sound great and get loud. Explain what you mean by that? Do you mean they can handle more than 600 or less? I've been doing some homework on this because I want to be sure that what I choose will work well. My only other question, right now, is the dual voice coil /RMS equasion.. 500 watt DVC sub: is that 500 to each coil or 250 to each coil? Hey man sorry I didn't answer your question earlier, i work in dorms and today was move in day on campus and tonight was "helping paramedics haul a bunch of drunk kids to the hospital" night... Kids these days. But anyways I think nick answered your voicecoil rms question. But as the owner of the company he can't tell you how much or if the subs can handle more power... I can tho haha. I have a pair of obsidian audio 12's on 2000 watts rms, so that ends up being 1000 watts on each sub and I they do just fine! They are very similar to the SA series from sundown in the way that they are rated. Either the SA or OA will do just great so far... all4spl Posted August 21, 2011 Report Posted August 21, 2011 Sundown SA 12, you can get them new direct from sundown for $195 shipped I believe, and if you don't mind a Bstock sub (jacobs bstocks look brand new and have full warranty) the 12s run $150 shipped usually. Amazing subs, underrated on power and will get nasty loud in the right box. Retired from SPL again.... 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 Champion 151.8db 2016 IASCA Truck/Trunk 2 World Record Holder
G-Rad Posted August 22, 2011 Author Report Posted August 22, 2011 What's everyone's opinion on JL Audio? I would have to guess, not a very good one... I have a buddy who has a JL Audio 12" in a bandpass box and it hit pretty hard on my little amp I was looking at this one: http://creativecaraudio.net/products/productdetail/JL+Audio+15W0v2-4/part_number=15W0v2-4/3266.0.1.1.1982.71372.0.0.0?pp=12& Although, I don't want to go bandpass... Otherwise, I've narrowed down my sub to 2 choices... kam311 Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 That is a horrible sub for the price! Really horrible so far... Leboy23 Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 I'd go with the DC level 3's or the SA 12's. It is about the best option for the price range. Also do not go with the JL so overrated for the money. You can get so much more for less. 2012 Nissan Altima SL DC M2 Lvl 3 12" with AR cone DC 1.2K Amp Kicker Sum8 Kicker 4 Gauge amp kit XS Power D2700 1.5 Cubic ft net tuned to 38Hz
kam311 Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Don't count out obsidian audio... If you say To go with an SA12 for the price then you've obviously never seen or compared an SA with an obsidian haha. The SA is known to get .5-1db louder, bit the obsidian is known to get a bit lower. So it just depends on which you'd rather have, not to mention the price difference. I have both btw so far...
