steel65402 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 hello everyone im new here so if i put this in the wrong place or sound really stupid im sorry lol anywho i have and old 83 town car i have put a new deck in and new dash and front door speakers all works fine hooked up threw the old bose amp thats built into the car but for some reason i keep blowing the rear deck speakers which are 6x9s now the first 2 sets i put in could only hand 70 watts rms so i got some kenwood 6x9s that said that could take 110 but it even blew those does anybody know some way to knock the power down that coming out of this amp or am i stuck ripping it out which i really dont want to do any help would be great thanks

steel65402 Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 thanks and no i keep the bass and other settings at 0 cuz the amp is there and i dont want to pull the amp cuz i have been trying to keep the car all original i would have left the old deck and speakers in there too but they were shot i know its silly cuz its a town car not really worth anything but it has only 53,000 miles on it and it was my grandfathers car if i have no choice ill pull it out i was just wondering if there was a way to knock the power down i plan to put 2 10inch subs in the back in a few months for a lil more boom but im thinking i should fix this first

skittlesRgood Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 what is going to the factory amp from your HU? low level (RCA) or high level (speaker wire)? if its high level the amp is probably made to receive a low level input so your sending it an amplified signal that its trying to amplify again. basically that means that you are clipping the holy fuck balls out of the signal. so its not about the amount of power the amp puts out or the power handling of the speaker. because of the signal being sent to the speakers they will do nothing but generate heat and burn. try bypassing the amp and just hook the speaker wire from the HU to the speakers. ill bet you it will sound better and wont burn up speakers. if its low level going to the amp then its probably bass boost and "loud" turned up on your HU.
