I was looking over noise laws in Ohio wen I came across this.

No person shall play any radio, music player or audio system in a motor vehicle at such volume as to disturb the quiet, comfort or repose of other persons or at a volume which is plainly audible to persons other than the occupants of said vehicle. (Ord. No. 2487-A-89. Passed 6-18-90, eff. 6-27-90)

(a) Whoever violates any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon a first offense, shall be fined seventy-five dollars ($75.00), which fine shall not be suspended, waived or otherwise reduced below that amount. In addition, the equipment or device used in the commission of a violation of Section 683.01 or 683.02 is hereby declared to be contraband and shall be seized and disposed of in accordance with RC 2933.43.

Could the police really take my 3 grand worth of audio equipment because it was too loud?

the ordinance for Houston sounds stupid, its a $500 fine and supposedly just went up to $1000

Sec. 30-4. - Amplified sound.

(a)It shall be unlawful for any person to make, assist in making, permit, continue, cause to be

made or continued, or permit the continuance of any sound using any sound amplifier that is part

of or connected to any speaker system, radio, stereo receiver, compact disc player, cassette tape

player, microphone, or any other sound source, when operated: (i) in such a manner as to disturb

the peace, quiet, and comfort of the neighboring inhabitants, or (ii) at any time with louder

volume than is necessary for convenient hearing for persons who are in the vehicle or within the

property or premises in which such sound amplifier is operated and who are voluntary listeners

thereto. The operation of any such sound amplifier in such a manner as to be plainly audible at a

distance of 50 feet from a vehicle shall be presumed to be violative of this section.

(1)Residential property:

a.65 dB(A) during daytime hours.

b.58 dB(A) during nighttime hours.

What's stupid actually is that most cities also allow fixed speakers (on a bar for example) to be audible from 50-250 ft yet a car gets 10. Here in Dearborn it's $500.

It's not the cops, it's citizens tossing a fit and laws being tightened or added, sorry, but that's how it works.
