Popping noise from speakers when brakes are applied

Recommended Posts

easy way to get by the infamous pioneer pico fuse

is to strip a piece of speaker wire wrap it around all the rcas on the radio..and either tie it into a screw on the radio or run that wire to a proper grounding location

every1 has thier own ways of doing things tho..im sure some1 on here will have something else to say

I have same issue as dylan. i have checked all connections other than the actual panasonic dvd player harness ground. Its been fine for 3 years and now it starts as a low alt whine then extremely loud at times and sometimes depends on weather. I donot want to buy new radio and still have same problems. anysuggestions ? i also plug my ipod directly into my audiop control xover to see if it was in trunk and it played fine. im guesin dvd player or rcas

thanks in advance

More details...

Are the speakers powered by the HU or a separate amp?

From the previous comments, it sounds like speakers off of an amp.

If so, do you have an iPod/Discman/mp3/portable music player?

Try disconnecting the HU from the amp and connect the standalone portable player into the amp.

With the portable unit laying music into the amp, try the brakes again.

If its still popping then the amp is mostly to blame. If the pop goes away its most likely the HU.

Are the RCA's from the HU to the amp running by any power wires?

Can also try running a separate RCA cable from the HU to the amp that is held up in the air away from any noise sources.

  • 6 years later...

Having the same problem, BUT the problem doesn’t go away even with a pair of RCA’s connected to my phone, I can still hear that popping when I press the brake + alternator whine when revving...very frustrating.

Could it be the alternator diodes? ‘Cause the guy from where I got the amp told me that it doesn’t have any problem and I should try powering it on a friend’s car.
