Im going to recone it and looked up youtube videos, but is it worth taking the risk for my first recone?

mlstrass
So i got a really unbeleivable deal on an fi btl 18 that i couldnt pass up, however one coil was blown. Im going to recone it and looked up youtube videos, but is it worth taking the risk for my first recone? Not hard at all, and only takes a few tools. I've one around 50-60 in the past few years since I seem to recone for everyone in the area. Angle grinder with 60grit flap disc & 1/2" wide wood chisel are the 2 "special" tools I use. Figure on a few hours for your first one, especially if you have to solder the leads vs direct connects.

ChevyBoy95
truthfully, watch a few online of ed lester and people who know what they are doing. my first was a level 5 18, and truthfully it is easy as long as you pay attention to what you are doing. bass_stalker
its not super complicated, you just have to make sure to tape off the motor gap while you clean all of your mounting surfaces so that nothing goes into the gap, and when you put the cone assembly in make sure you use your shim, some guys put a little weight on the cone to make sure that the joints all adhere tightly but Ive also seen others use small clamps. lastly make sure you solder your leads on really good because you don't want a bad connection or for them to come loose Quote JEEP BUILD PROJECT ANTIBLING.2000 jeep Cherokee.HEADUNITAlpine Cda-9886SUBSTAGE1 acendent 18" audio mayhem motor with a TI basket and tantric parts1 prototype DAT hellfire 1000.1HIGHSStockELECTRICALdb link 0 gaugeKnuconceptz Kolossus 4 gauge1 xs power d3400 under hoodBig 3 upgradeold fourwheeler build The only way to delete your SMD account is for you crawl to steve meades door step on your knees and pleade for his forgiveness and acceptance to be released...He will either grant your wishes.....or choke you with a large piece of 0 gauge and electrocute you by hooking up a solid gold DC 12k at 0.000001 ohm and 10000 volts to your eye sockets and blow your head apart You guys act like you have never clogged a toilet and ran around the bathroom frantically hoping it don't overflow. ChevyBoy95
shims and making sure the coil cant move during the process is key, that and a strong spider to basket joint.
