Can't decide

Recommended Posts

My brother just turned 16 and got his license this week, he has a 1998 firebird ram air car (rare factory v6 ram air I might add) that is getting painted right now. He always wanted a system ever since I got my first one so for his bday I bought him a jl j2 500.1 which does 500rms at 2ohm and a alpine deck.

Now as you all know a firebird/Camaro has limited space in the hatch so the next thing I'm doing for his bday is building a simple box to slide down in the hatch just until he decides to upgrade and then we will go all out (after he is a little better behind the wheel)

So after the back story here is my delima, I have around 2.5-3 cubes to play with should I go 2 10s ported or 2 12s sealed?

I've been leaning towards the 10s where as I havnt done any work with small woofer and I think ported would sound better in the hatch..

Opinions? Subs will b skar vvx so we can add power a little later

Laying frame soon.. System has to wait

If your looking for something cheap for a meantime type deal just to get some bass, before going bigger and fully custom they do make a box to fit the cars

They are not all too bad for being prefab boxes. It would be something to get him by on the cheap.

This box is for 10s

This box is for 12s

I would go 10s myself..so they have optimum space instead of 12s that might be iffy on space...plus I like the vvx10s...they look better than the 12s to me at least

Okay little clarification, the box will be a simple rectangle box as would any prefab would be, not buying a fancy fit one or anything I will build one to spec that will not be an issue whee as I already know what I'm building..

The one thing I can't decide on is 2 10s ported or 2 12s sealed

Laying frame soon.. System has to wait

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
