Noob Question

Recommended Posts

I guess it is a personal prefrence. Underpowering CAN be just as bad as over powering. when you say underpowering you are referring to the rms correct? well i usually only match rms or correctly overpower so IMO i would say no. Ask yourself why would you want to underpower something, you paid for it why not get the full use of it. If its to loud turn the volume down?

no...under powering isnt as bad as over power

You can under power a woofer all you want, by 100w, 500, even more you'll be fine, but if you do under power that doesn't mean your gain can still be wide open. You can still see clipping

Is it ok to under power a sub? Heard it wasn't but it seemes like you folks on here really know your stuff. Thanks.

Do you just mean "not giving your sub as much power as you could give it?" if that's what you mean then absolutely not bad at all.
