Everything wired correctly and tuned with dd-1, but just started getting voice coil smell

I was playing y'all don't hear my by meek mill off the dreamchasers mix tape, I guess I'll just turn my gain down a little bit more. I don't drop voltage really at all, with the engine running its steady between 14.4 and 13.9, and I used the dd-1 while my engine was running and my heater on full blast to tune it to with the voltage it would normally run at.

Where are you measuring your voltage at? Amp or battery?

yes always measure at the amp, that way it counts the voltage drop in the wire also.

The battery, should I be measuring it at the amp?

Absolutely. Try that and post back what your voltage is

try checking the output of your amp with the dd-1 again with the subs still hooked up.

I never did get why they say to unhook your subs to test it, your subs load the amp, the amp draws power, the voltage drops, then the clip ceiling falls and boom.

what was once clean with no load is now clipped to shit.

Not to thread-jack, but I tried this with mine thinking the same thing.. Since you're drawing more power at a lower impedance than you would at twice the said impedance, but nothing really changed.

just downloaded the mixtape from datpiff...

39hz and 29hz are the main notes in the song. Song is clipped +2db but thats total including mids/highs, either way its a bit clippy :( Peaks are between -10db and -4db

thats why it smelled, voicecoils were getting warm from clipping amp and playing below tuning (which lowers power handling)
