banginsebring07
Anyone ever used pocket holes to build a box say inside the trunk or in a wall where you can't screw the screws from the outside?
LSN2meBoom916
Pocket holes? Not ringin a abell..... I'll look into it. Ok I found it. Gawd Bless the internet. http://www.routerforums.com/attachments/ji...table-pock5.jpg I've never used this method for car audio. It's basically a furniture building technique so I'm sure GP2K2 prolly uses it a bunch in his cabinet building. I "had to" demonstrate that I knew how to use it and such in woodshop back in High School. My computor desk that I made was built using that method to construct the framing. I don't consider it nearly as strong as the way I build enclosures so I might use it on an amp rack cover or something cosmetic but not really for anything load bearing. Forevrbumpn
when I worked at a furniture shop, there is a special press like machine to do that, which you couldnt get in your car in the first place, I actually did this alot on the last box I built, alot of 30degree counter sunk pilot holes, just gotta have skill using a drill with the right bits Quote I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. LSN2meBoom916
Yea it's used a lot for face-framing of furniture and cabinets. There are some "simple" little jigs that just clamp down and let you drill your pockets at the set angle for the jig, and then there are other "presses" like your talkin bout of various sizes-kinda like the variety of miter saws you can find. some cordless some corded. some bulky some minimal. Some have a router style bit and some use a drill bit. I have no real use for it nor the biscuit cutter. I still have a biscuit cutter i got for free Im shoppin for a new router and miter saw right now maself-merry xmas to my damn self. kingsuv
I've tried it a few times. It works much better with real wood not mdf. It takes a hell of a lot longer to do it. It looks way nicer when it's done right. Quote Designing, building, and shipping boxes. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
reinke
dont laugh but what kind of wood would work great for this? and would it hold up to a RE mt with about 3k going to it? Quote ----reference's---- meade916
kingsuv
dont laugh but what kind of wood would work great for this? and would it hold up to a RE mt with about 3k going to it? honestly, I wouldn't do it for any hi-power box. Yeah it may look better, but It really wouldn't be stronger. your going to make it double stacked on the top anyway so hiding the screws don't mean much. MDF of Birch is what I use to build my boxes. Plenty of glue, and resin helps too. You can countersink and fill the screw holes if you want it to look better. Quote Designing, building, and shipping boxes.
