This headunit doesnt seem to get close to full rca output until volume 30 or so. It feels like a single 8 on 100w(well, you can't really feel that LOL). As far as the head unit not distorting, I believe you, but my speakers are bad(polk db651's). They have a slight distortion noise to them at certain frequencies at any high volume, so I don't like to go higher than necessary.

Gain up almost all the way and I'm not even seeing 500w. Subsonic is set to about 25, lpf at about 80. No bass boost. Battery voltage lowest drop I've seen is 14.0. Subwoofer lvl on the headunit is at max as it should be. Volume set to ~27 out of 35 max. Knu 4ga power and ground. The input voltage selector is at 2-8v instead of .1-2v because of my 4v preouts. I'm assuming this is how it should be. Help me out, guys! I had to put the input selector on some planet audio bb2400.1s on the .1 to 2v setting even tho i have 4v preouts as well to get the right output from them. It was like 3 to 4 times as loud like that for some reason. 2000 zx2: Rebuild with 8 12s on a 10k underway!! MY BUILD LOG

mrd6 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 an old alpine I had used to have had a setting similar to what I think you are describing. You had to turn "subs on" to get a high voltage to the sub out rcas on the back and the sub level couldnt be adjusted until that was turned on. The problem was something was reversed so when I turned "subs on" it actually sent low voltage to the rcas and the sub level control had to be turned up high to get output and then of course sounded like poo. So instead i ran it on "subs off" and controlled output through the amp remote. Seems like a similar problem here, I would call Kenwood and see what they say or if it isnt a huge hastle try a different head unit if you have one laying around. Slowly turn up gain until it stops getting louder.
