New Kenwood Excelon Info

Recommended Posts

Just received my new Excelon KDC-X896, brand new model. When setting the gains, sub level can only go up to +9 (of 15) before the dd-1 distortion light comes on, even with gain all the way down. In the past, excelon decks needed the sub level all the way up. Not any more.

Wait so on the ken wood excelon decks you have to have the sub level at +15 for dd-1 to pick up a signal ?? Or did I read that wrong

anything above +9 on the subwoofer channel clips he is saying. 9 is safe, 11-12 or w/e isnt 15 isnt..

pretty much hes saying they're going down in quality. (technically)

my 9980 doesn't require nowhere near as much boost as the pioneer I had ... and has cleaner output ...

The Kenwood seems to be a more robust unit ... atleast from my Sound Quality standpoint ... Does the system perform the way you want it with the gains set to the DD1 ???

clean signal is a clean signal regardless what the deck needs to get there. good info orion

by the logic above alpines are the best units because you turn them to +15 and pioneers are the worst because they get full voltage with a lower sub level, duh... it does not work like that at all.

Uhh, not going down in quality. What he said means that NOW the sub puts out a clean signal(close to 4V) at 9 instead of like before of having to go up to 15.

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

If anything, quality is better if you don't have to max a setting.

I actually went back and retuned my gain with the sub level at '0', and the gain is just a tad higher than with my old deck (sub level +15).

Kudo's to Kenwood for making the rca's accurate to advertised output.

so basically what i meant by technically is that.

before there was no way you could introduce clipping into the system by putting it at +15.

now if you put it at +15 you will clip.

a head unit without clipping at max > a head unit with clipping at max..

before.. no clipping

now.. clipping..

introducing the option to clip is a lower quality.

thats like saying boss is great because it doesnt clip at low volumes.. (i guess? idk, i made my point anyways)

i run a kenwood deck anyways so w/e

Hey bro, not knocking or anything, but why would you turn the sub level up on your H/U out of curiosity. Shouldn't you zero out your H/U, find unclipped signal on it, then adjust the gains at the amp?

(I'm guessing you're just using your sub level as a bass knob, but I may be wrong but apologize if I'm right and just asking stupid questions).

the kenwood hu doesnt clip with the sub level at +9 jason

even with the deck maxed out, the sub channel still isnt clipping from 0-9.

if you dont understand then this:

basically hes at full tilt and isnt clipping with his sub at 0.

he is still at full tilt and isnt clipping with his sub at 9.

shit not loud at 0

shit loud at 9
