n8ball2013 Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 you were able to turn it up 3/4 of the way becaues your preout voltage was ass. I dont know who started this misconception that sub level is supposed to be on 0 or 5 or whatever but im guessing they never checked the actual output voltage. Turn your sub out to 15. Im guessing you have an alpine. I'll bet that gets the full voltage out of it and then you can retune your amps. Id rahter my amps didnt have to work quite so hard to perform. AMERICAN BASSHEAD Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 I am an audiopipe dealer cant wait to see what it dose, maybee i will witch from American Bass................NOT. im tuned in
theChief Posted April 19, 2012 Author Report Posted April 19, 2012 The head unit is kenwood & it has 4v preouts. I said the gain made it 3/4 before clipping. NOT that I was running it at 3/4. It's plenty powerful right below 1/2. & I'll test with the sub level at full but I know for a fact that will clip the signal from the HU
theChief Posted April 19, 2012 Author Report Posted April 19, 2012 My voltage stays right at 14 at 1/2 gain & the amp stays ice cold. I don't consider that over working it.
armykyle1 Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 something seems off I bring my hu to its highest unclipped signal (4v pre outs) and I don't even get a 1/4 turn on the gain to reach full power unclipped TEAM XS POWERTEAM HEAVY HERTZMy build- http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194454-e46-bmw-build-pos/#entry2914134youtube- http://www.youtube.com/user/armykyle1big build starting

stroupe79 Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 i didnt think sub output level could cause clipping?...i am confused or misinformed here?..i know HU volume can but didnt think sub out had anything to do with the HU causing clipping... http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)

OP, i would turn the sub level to 0, bass boost to 0, and make sure the HU Eq settings are at 0 as well. BFF Larry Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 i didnt think sub output level could cause clipping?...i am confused or misinformed here?..i know HU volume can but didnt think sub out had anything to do with the HU causing clipping... you can set the sub level on the HU to whatever you want, but once you scope the pre-outs for the sub, 50hz or lower tone being used, you will find that you cannot turn the volume knob as high, and will cause clipping earlier. General you want to set all eq settings to 0, and sub level to 0 when finding what your Hu will clip at xx volume.
