im sure that you can fit solder in that hole i thought that was cool. To me its better then making the pool of solder in there and then trying to shove all the strands in there. With that hole you can put the lug on heat it up then solder with the lug already on the wire.

also check your local flea markets, there might be some people selling copper 2/0,1/0, 4/0 for the dl.
