SWIFT
Well looks like I will end up with 17.87cu before bracing and sub displacement. I really want to end up with 17cu total after. This is for 2 18in FI Q's on 3k watts. Box dimensions will be Outside 35h x 54w x 27d.... All sides double 3/4 MDF except front baffle will be triple. (may use some Birch for weight reduction) Usable inside demensions are 32h x 41.5w x 23.25d = 17.87cu Port is 8 x 32 = 256in total Sub displacement = .24 (x2)... but I will be triple baffled so what maybe .22 each?? Total of six 2in hardwood dowels for bracing =.35 2in wide 45's in corners =.10 So this leaves me with 17cuft tuned at 30hz after all is said and done. I may glass the inside as well? whats the benefits? Anybody see anything I am missing? Will six 2in hardwood dowels be enough fr bracing? 2 top to bottom, 2 front to back and 2 side to port wall. Plus with all double walled and triple baffle this mofo should be solid I would think. These will be powered by a Crunch GP3000 pro. Big 3 done, 1/0guage, 270 Mechman alt, etc etc. Edited April 12, 2012 by SWIFT Quote 2012 F250 Lariat 6.7, lifted on 22's and 35's 4 DSS Ethos 18's walled tuned low 2 Ampere Audio 7500.1's, Ampere 125.4 Rockford Pro Audio front stage 9 batteries, Mechman Elite 370 alt Team DSS, Team Ampere Audio 2014 Meca Mod 3 TN State champ / 3rd place Mod 3 World Finals
OrionStang
Why so big? Port takes up more space than you calculated, i.e. whats the port length? Quote SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
dolarbilz
Use birch save on weight ..why tripple baffle? Seems excessive ..and that box is huge to me seems to big...im not pro box designer. Why u need it so big?
Sanitarium
can't read a lick of what you typed. best not to color your font like that as it won't work with all forum skins.... oh and that's entirely too much box for 2 18's. would work great for 3 though. Glassing the inside is only something that will help if you take the time to sand it smooth benefits would be lower rise (unpredictable as to how much) smoother airflow, and a gain in db (most likely not audible but readable on the meter.) SWIFT
Why so big? Port takes up more space than you calculated, i.e. whats the port length? I calculated internal volume not counting the port at all. My calculations should be dead on. Port is 8in wide by 32in H, Port is 27in total length. Port wall is 17.5 inches long stopping 8in from back wall. so 17.5 + 4in to middle of port + 4in back to edge of port wall + 1.5in wood = 27in length Edited April 12, 2012 by SWIFT Quote 2012 F250 Lariat 6.7, lifted on 22's and 35's 4 DSS Ethos 18's walled tuned low 2 Ampere Audio 7500.1's, Ampere 125.4 Rockford Pro Audio front stage 9 batteries, Mechman Elite 370 alt Team DSS, Team Ampere Audio 2014 Meca Mod 3 TN State champ / 3rd place Mod 3 World Finals
SWIFT
I dont see my words in a different color?? The FI Q 18 calls for 6-10 cu per sub. So I just figured 8.5cu each because I will only be using 3k watts. Sanitarium
I figured up your box dimensions and port guessing 0.25 cubes displacement per sub (close enough, i can correct if you're anal about it). to end up with a 30 hz tuning like you're looking for the port would need to be 26.5 inches long leaving you at 17.528 cubes after all displacements and 14.6 square inches of port per cube. nothing about that box is wrong per say... but i personally would do it.. and damn sure wouldn't run 1500 watts per Q in that size box. Just be careful with it, you could easily overheat or bottom out a sub in it.
