when you say "full tilt" do you mean the volume turned all the way up or set to dd1 max?

regardless, dd1 will tell you how to set your gains. it does not compensate for subs in the wrong enclosure

or, did you set gains with -10db and then play something with -1db bass?

almost like all of decaf songs are louder than -10db. i think his loudest songs are around the -5db mark

you need to set it with the -5 or -0 @ 40hz. Almost no music is -10db,

Yep, I had it backwards. Still, I would set at -5db if you are getting smoke. Or add a bass control knob. Kind of hard to hear clipping in bass.

So I take it he ruined his subs? I told him to see if the coils looked burnt but he hasn't got back to me

If they still play he probly didn't ruin them but it definitely wasent good for them at all. Probly will need recones soon. Check the coils an see what they read.
