BassJunkie
I've built a computer before, but I've never upgraded a processor on a bought pc. The computer: A dell 2300 dimension desktop. The problem, dumbass friend yanked it out put it in the wrong way bent the pins. Wants a new processor, same or better, but wants better. How do I find out what the socket type is? It doesnt say on the processor or the mobo... Will the dell accept a better processor if its the same socket type or will it conflict with the bios? Btw it was a 1.8 P4 processor. Quote 1986 C20 Suburban 9 American Bass XFL 15's B2 M1MKII 14v XS Power Batteries Maxwell Caps Acoustical energy is free. AI James
look up the dell model number, you should be able to find something it sounds like socket 754 or 755 somethign like that thoguh, and i wouldnt try to put a better processor as its a pain to get bios updates for preinstalled comps

EricM9104
Socket 478. More than likely it's gonna be an 84x Intel chipset which doesn't support a 533MHz or 800MHz FSB IIRC. Here's a link to a P4 2.0GHz, 400MHz FSB, 512KB L2 cache. =] http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4...478&cat=CPU Quote 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 24k miles Stock H/U and mids/highs Power Acoustik GW3-12" D2 Sub HiFonics BXX1200.1D @ 1ohm Random 2.5^3' dual ported box NVX LOC Stinger wiring throughout 1977 Chevy SWB Cammed 350 Dual exhaust Cheap Wish stereo
