Where my finger is pointed to is the Input sensitivity switch and has 2 options ".1-2v" & "2v-8v". I have noticed the lower you run the input voltage the warmer the amp becomes.

Here is a pic of what I am talking about:

so you are saying your headunit has a less than 2v ouput through the rcas ouch clipping! your headunit has 5v preouts

Yea my HU is suppose to have 5v preouts but I cant get any audible bass with the Input voltage at 2v or higher. So I keep my amp gain around 1.6-1.7v and I get pretty decent bass from that. I have tried getting my RCA voltages with my DMM at the back of the HU with the DMM plugged directly into the back of the HU and I tried at the end of the RCA's with the DMM positive lead on the center pin and the negative lead on the sheild of the RCA and still couldnt get any voltage reading. I dont know what is wrong with it but I wish I could set the amp gain at a higher voltage.

The sub hasnt ever gotten smelly or warm to the touch so I dont think clipping is a problem but I also could be wrong though. I am trying to find a DD1 to set it with cause I am ordering one in about 2 months but would like to set my amp with one before then.

Same problem here...I didn't realize it until seeing the picture posted previously and going out to check what mine was set at, which was at the lower setting. Shit banged like crazy! When I switched it to the higher setting, drastic decrease in volume of bass...which is probably why I left it at the lower setting during install. But that being said, I have been having issues with heat, amp got crazy hot and has gone into thermal protect after a 30minute drive home while barely on 16/32 volume and sub level all the way down. This was on triple digit temp days though so I chalked it up to that. This has opened my eyes though.

I dont know whats up with these rub2500.1's not wanting to produce any bass with an input voltage higher than 2v. I haven't yet had mine to go into protect yet even on the days the actual temp of 106 and a heat index of 113-115 degrees. I will say the amp got hot enough I couldnt hold my hand on it for more than probably 5-6secs without it being pretty uncomfortable. I need to invest one of those guns to measure surface temp to see where the amp actually is. On hot days like 95+ degrees Ill reach back behind my seat and feel the amp every now and then to make sure it isn't getting too hot and if I cant comfortably hold on hand on it I will back the gain knob about to about 1/4 of the way up. The only days I see my amp get really hot like I cant comfortably hold my hand on it are the hot days like 95+ degrees but I guess that is suspected when I can't even go outside without breaking a sweat and up gettin hot myself. The mid day heat mixed with the humidity of Eastern NC are killer on an amps. I'm glad I could offer some info that turned out to be helpful though man.

Also my system stats are:

- no bass boost

- sub level on 4/8

- bass level on 0/6

- gains around 1.6-1.7v

- HU "loud" feature off

- when I want to slam the HU is on 32/50

- My usual playing level 26/50

Try to push your bass level to 6/6, and set the gain then. I know the Pioneer head units like it like taht !

The gain will have to be lowered, the amp may work better , with less heat.

Just an idea.
