Sorry if Im a noob Thats what I'm thinking lol. How the fuck do you damage a battery by charging it over it's resting voltage? 15.9 or 16.8, regardless, it's still higher than the 14.4ish volts its going to float at... banginburban
exactly. My dad works at a battery store and he said the same thing. But i dont think he understands something this big. LOL.
Emmet
I thought sulfation happens if batteries are chronically under charged? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, with trippi dropping that coin and david putting in all that work to fit those batteries, seems like it would be a little frustrating to not get the full potential. i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah.. You want this to happen to you? Give decent handshakes people. I was gifted with an innate ability to distribute wholesale ass beatings in a timely and orderly fashion. SnowDrifter
I'd be more concerned about just belt stretch/breakage than actual pull on the engine, it's not like he's powering these with a little 4 cylinder. At startup, it's going to take a couple 2-3 seconds for the field current to get the alts up to charge at 15.8V from first fire. That is also not going to be at a full 100% draw on the alts unless the batteries are completely depleted. Now just to do some out loud thinking/typing: In electrical power, 1HP = 746W So since P = I*V, and these are 300A alts (IIRC?) We can say 300A * 15.8V = 4740W 4740W * 12alts = 56,880W 56,880 / 746 = 76.247 So the alts will in a sense be stealing roughly 76HP from the engine to run at full draw. Gotta remember, when the alts aren't turned on the resistance they provide isn't ungodly, I know I could turn mine just fine. And alts are around 50% efficient 75.247/.5 = 150.494 Pedal to the metal demos anyone? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Funny...I was just thinking about doing this math when I scrolled down to your post The thought just hit me....damn with 12 Alts, that must require a lot of HP to run at full tilt. Considering the Alts aren't 100% efficient either, they probably draw a bit more then that as well. I wonder what a Hummer engine (6.0 liter I believe) does at idle? Suppose those Alts would stall the engine if you hit the system at idle........... I'll just leave this here. Also, the 76 amps of draw calculation is off because alternators aren't 100% efficient. It would be closer to 150 HP to turn them, which also does not include any other engine driven devices like water pump, power steering, emissions, etc. https://www.wccaraudio.com/ https://www.wccaraudio.com/ https://www.wccaraudio.com/ https://www.wccaraudio.com/
