Wicks Posted August 10, 2015 Author Report Share Posted August 10, 2015 So we had literally a scorching soundoff yesterday at the Budweiser Super Show in Denver. It was a massive car show and a local group put on an Outlaw style competition as well. https://www.facebook.com/Budweisertour2014 As you saw in my previous post, JP flew into town to check out what Colorado has to offer. I've heard all the rumors but have to say, he was a cool dude. It was hot has hell out all day yesterday and he was there the whole day taking pictures and videos of most setups. He was also chatting with everybody and even installing the Termlab mic's as people were pulling into the lanes, I didn't expect that... He got a kick out my actuated rear seat so keep your eye out, my M3 may show up in one of his upcoming vids. Anyway, onto the competion... I was my first of the year as I was pretty busy with my house. So I came out swinging to push my XL12's for all they got. I started off with a very disappointing 144 so I knew something was up. This was outlaw and I've hit a 50 before and that was with my DC5K. After tinkering in the parking lot afterwards........BOOM, it came back to life and was much louder. In thinking about it, I have noticed that the output level on my 360.3 has been fluctuating and occasionally has a very low output even when cranked up. (I'll do another post later about my 360.3 issues as I don't want to get into it now.) Well after a few turn-on cycles, I got back in the lanes. Much better but I should be over a 150, especially with the DC9K. So I was close to my previous best but I'm still not totally happy. Something with these recones just isn't great with the meter. This local CO group also does a competition called "Low End Monster", where they meter you on a 30Hz tone to see how well you system is at low frequencies. Here's what I pulled out: A 45 @ 30Hz seems pretty decent to me, given my box constraints and whatnot. Well, then the next event was 30secs on music. I was amped up and wasn't sure what song to play, since I have played around with my meter much lately. So on a suggestion, I played Thug Motivation".........which I think got a little too low... And here we are again Surround separated from the cone. May have been the heat, maybe the music, who knows. It was only a matter of time that my 9K was going to inflict some damage. Can only blame myself. It doesn't look too bad though, I should be able to re-glue it and try it again.
