Just out of curiosity, I was going back through your build and the pocket screws you said you were having problems with. What did you use instead? Was it just a clamp issue, or was it the screws themselves? I have a feeling I may have to build my box in my trunk as well, SUX, and I'm thinking this is gonna have to be used.

Ahhh pocket screws. Looked like a great idea at the time.

The special drill bit didn't drill a pilot hole long enough into the base board.

I had to place the pocket jig just right so the screw didn't come through my bottom plate. So I only had 3/4" of play with.

The pocket screw inserts into the countersunk piece and when you start to apply pressure and drill both pieces of wood together, the screw moves around a little bit on the base plate. The screw also didn't want to "pull" the pieces of wood together very well either and in some cases left a little gap. I think that was partially due to the type of Kreg screws I got.

I saw some at Lowes with wider threads to grip the wood better but I never used them as I was fed up with the process.

By the time you got the screws working well enough, the wood glue was setting and the two pieced of wood were not aligned.

You end up doing more back and forth then it was worth.

So one of my side panels is held by glue and pocket screws. The other is simply glued in place. I used a piece of wood wedged between my rear deck to force the side panel down and left it until the glue dried overnight.

As far as I can tell, glued MDF is just as strong, if not stronger with just a clean, glued joint then trying to mess with screws.

May be a different story at much higher power levels, but I wouldn't use screws unless you need them to hold something together or simply can't fit a clamp in that area.

Not hatin' on the process at all if anybody out there swears by it and I'm sure it has its place, but a simple glue joint in many cases is plenty good enough.

LOL, yeah I went crazy in the clamp department, but I did have a need for every one if them.

Thanks for the comments!

I mapped everything out on my buss bar and decided that I wanted to split it in two for a positive buss bar and a negative buss bar.

Therefore I needed to find a way to cut a 1/2" chuck of aluminum in half....

So I bought a 10" metal blade for my miter saw.

222metalbladesaw.jpg

The sliding rails really came in handy and I ain't gonna lie, that cut was a little sketchy but...it worked.

223bussbarcut.jpg

Used the drill press to punch a few mounting holes in it and we have a start.

224bussbar.jpg

Wasn't overall happy with my dash voltmeter. It wasn't quite spec'd for auto use since one day the sun beat down on it and slightly melted the plastic cover.

So I looked around and found this one (the small one at the bottom): ;)

225voltmeter.jpg

Got it all dial in.

I also found a matching temperature meter with two probes.

226tempmeter1.jpg

226tempmeter2.jpg

It will switch between the two probes when you change the ambient light in front of the meter (wave your hand in front of it).

I tested it out and that feature is a little flaky but we'll see if I can get it to work.

Also for today,

I've been a member on here since last fall and have really grown to love this place.

So the other day I stepped up and joined as a contributing member.

Gotta say I'm really liking how my name shows up all BOLD AND BRONZE...!
