Battery Under hood or In Trunk?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm looking into buying either a XS D2700 or an XS D3100 battery.... Issue is that I am only allowed one battery in the class that I am running. I can barely fit the D2700 in the stock battery location, and the D3100 is way to big to fit.

Question is: Should I just deal with the D2700 and keep it in the Stock location, or go with the bigger D3100 and just put a distrobution block under the hood and run the battery in the trunk?

Thanks guys

id say run a distro block and go with the 3100 that way if you ever upgrade what you got or switch classes youve already got your wires and everything done and can put another bat under the hood

My concern with it being in the back and only running 1 battery is it being so far away from the alt, I'm not sure you would get a steady flow to the batt. I'm thinking your amps would discharge your batt faster then it could charge being so far away. I could be wrong I have been drinking with my wife since 6 LOL.

People run rear battery only in hot rod and race car type applications all the time, the battery getting good current is more dependent on run large enough wire fom up front to that. I run a rear mounted battery in my Trans Am and have never had an issue. Places like Summit sell kits specifically for relocating your battery to the trunk.

In the class I can only run 1 run of 1/0 which is done, Yes its farther from the Alt, but at the same time its closer to the amp.

I run a rear batt in my drag truck but it's not being beat on by thousands of watts constantly.

I think I'm just gonna put the D2700 up front.... Only running a red top right now, so I can't wait to have double the storage capacity! Hopefully see some rise in the Numbers

Definately put the battery under the hood. I wouldn't ever reccomend just running a battery in the rear unless you want to burn up your alt. If you could run 8-10 runs of 0/1 then it may not be a problem, but since you can't your going to thank yourself for keeping it in the front of the car.

Just go ahead and put the 3100 in the back. And later on if you decide you can put the 2700 back up front, then have 2 batterys when your not competeing
