lotus Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 I built a 5.3 cu gross box (3/4 mdf) for my 2 12 xds with 2 braces and a baffle over the sub holes. There on the vfl 100.1 getting 1500watts but I wanna upgrade and keep the box. Sheena Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 That box is so huge for 2 12s. Depends what your build quality is, and what methods you use. In 4 cu ft boxes I use torx bit screws 1 1/2" long, tite bond II and silicon, with one dowel from top to bottom. In 3k watt applications you just run more supports if you aren't glassing, in addition to top and bottom, you do front to back, and side to side, and one in the port. (I haven't built for anything over 1500 watts. lotus Posted May 19, 2012 Author Report Posted May 19, 2012 The subs have 4.4cu between them. Its at 36hz and sounds a lot better then the prefab box I had. The xfls and hds magnets are like 3x bigger then the xd. So I'd believe it would take up a lot more space. Its also a little taller and more than double the weight. I just hope the box can take them on 3k or 4k watts. My amps on the box... No where else to put it but I put rubber inbetween the box and amp. And its firing into the cab in my cobalt coupe.
