Infinite baffles good or bad?

Recommended Posts

I've never been a fan of IB set ups. Like you said, a lot of work to seal the trunk and I've never cared much for the quality of the bass you get.

must not have been anyone who knew what they were doing because IB done RIGHT is good shit........

In a way, IB setups in trunk cars become sealed enclosures when the trunk is closed, if the subs are firing forward from a wall that seals the trunk off from the interior of the car.

Here's some examples in home theater setups though- http://home.comcast.net/~infinitelybaffled/page4IB-Gallery3.html

I think I read that to technically be considered an IB, the airspace (trunk) that the sub is in has to be 10x the VAS of the driver.

Had two 18" in an IB config in my malibu last year. Sounded awesome and disappeared on most tracks. Couldn't even tell where the bass was coming from. They can get quite loud with the right drivers and power. You won't be touching 50's though but that isn't the point of IB. I didn't have enough output so I changed. If I were to do a sq build in a sedan this is the way I would go. Multiple drivers is the key. Believe it or not there is some sq guys that are using 2 or 3 of the Pyle Blue wave15". They say they are great in this config.

In the old days alot of trunk cars would run them, like caprices and similar cars. This was probably late 80's early 90's. They called them baffle boards. I remember cars having the expanding foam all over the place in attempts to seal the whole trunk.

Yea I remember people doing that. Just a short time ago  . At that time I thought it was worthless but starting to see the purpose of them thanks to everyone here.

I'm going to have to check the SQ forums out now this is getting me curious now. Pyle's actually surprise me didn't know they were still being used.

If you're doing IB make sure your baffle is rock solid, the rear deck is sealed 110%, and you sound deadening the whole car, especially the trunk.
