why is my amp making a high pitched sound?

Recommended Posts

my amp is making a high pitched noise. its not audible through the speakers, but the amp it self is making the noise. any ideas on what it can be? it still bumps the subs so im not sure what it could be. the board was dusty so i blew it off and the noise stopped until i blew on it again lol. maybe its just really dusty or something?

The amp itself ? Something wrong right there, try new grounds. Open back case n check if u see burn spots on board.

If u disconnect RCA's does it still do it ?

There may be a bad fan in the amp. If it is warrantied, send it back.

if not, open it up and remove the ground wire from the fan and wrap electric tape around the connection points to be safe.

some amps do that when they clip

I was just about to suggest seeing if it does it at a lower gain setting.

It could also be capacitor whine. Sometimes older caps start making audible noises during their charge/discharge process.

Ding ding.

I've noticed on a majority of the amps that I've tuned with the DD-1, when the clip indicator turns on on the DD-1, I can hear a squeal coming from the amp. Back off the gain, clip light goes of, squeal goes away.

How did you tune your amp?
