That's the design I was trying to suggest, side firing into the B-pillar! Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

carguy6702 Posted July 17, 2012 Author Report Posted July 17, 2012 Well, Thank You Very much, John253a, I have built the box and just installed it yesterday. They sound great. Thanks for all the help. I'll post a video soon.
siucsaluki11 Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 How do they sound? How low do they go, how high do they get? Hows the output? Im looking at getting one or two of these to play with (i can't afford to keep swapping shit out, but i can afford a sheet of MDF every now and again to build a new enclosure to experiment, so it would give me something to do. Have you had other subs in your truck? How do they compare? Just looking for some info. woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port... john253a Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 if you got the space, 3 of theise is the way to go, ive got 2 in 1 car and 2 in a t-line for home surround sound, yes they get low, best sub ive had in such a small area, dont get me wrong, there no 12" but they hit hard, and clean in the right box with right power what you plane to put in and with how much power
siucsaluki11 Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Trust me, I've wanted to do 3 8s for a while now. But i don't have the money for 3 8s. I want to just get the 1 and do some experimenting with enclosures. I have a BRZ1700.1D for power. I just want something to tinker/experiment with. For the most part, don't have time to work because of school, until next may when i graduate, I spend about 12 hours a day getting to/being at school monday through friday. I would love to do a new build in my car, but right now I'm saving up for a set of studio monitors, and since a sub costs a god damn fortune, ill most likely build my own rather than spend ~1k on a decent studio sub. I won't mind the loss in SPL going from 2 12s on 1kw to 1 8 on whatever it will handle, it will probably blend better with my mids anyway, i don't mind when I'm listening to rap or EDM, but when I'm trying to listen to a mix down of a recording, its nice to not have such exaggerated bass, yeah i can turn it down (and usually do) but its just unnecessary, and I'm bored, so going with something relatively cheap that i could experiment with (different enclosures/orientations in the trunk) for just the cost of some MDF or birch ply, glue and time. I havent had my trunk for the past 3 years, so i could care less about how much space it takes up. I was going to get a 15" Xcon or Zcon, but that leaves no room for experimenting and costs a lot in comparison, actually, about the same as 3 8's... I plan on trying ported, different volumes, port area, tuning, etc. Also plan on experimenting with 4th order bandpass enclosures...different volumes, ratios, tunings, etc. This is more just for me. Personally, i want it to sound good and get decently loud. Eventually, ill go to 2 8s, then to 3, but I'm going to start with 1. woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port... Have you had other subs in your truck? How do they compare? Just looking for some info. They sound great. when i turned it on, an immediate smile on my face. They get low and I love it. The output is just WOW!! They get loud but not punchy. I've had an Fi Q 12" i cant really compare it, I had it in for about a week, being ran from a JL 500/1, in a small sealed box, it was decent output. if i had a different box with the SAZ1500D to it would've been different story. I also had a Pioneer Premier TS-W2504SPL in a 1.25 at 32hz, the output was good it got low and loud, but these out do it. This is by far the best setup ive had in the truck.
siucsaluki11 Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 What do you mean loud but not punchy? Did you mean boomy? Punchy is something i would hope those things would be. If not, I'm going to cross them off my list, which i don't want to do. Im going to assume you misspoke, cuz i was figuring these lil guys would be have a nice tight punchy response to them.... EDIT: While I'm not going for an SQ build, I'm trying to go a bit more towards SQ from where I'm at, and am willing to sacrifice SPL for it. Seeing as the 2 things i listen to music on most are my beyerdynamic DT770 PROs or my car, and I'm in school for studio recording, and a lot of my homework is recording and mixing things down, id like to head more in the way of a good, well rounded system. I can turn my subs down now, and get them close to matching, and get it all sounding good on rock...but when i go from listening to rap and EDM, to rock, i have to change my crossover and EQ settings (beauty of a 9887), and the subwoofer output setting as well (you know when it says subwoofer and lets you choose from -- to 15 on alpines). My goal is to get some subs that sound good, have a wide bandwidth, and play relatively flat (i know, this is very dependent on the enclosure as well, which is why i said i would be doing a lot of different boxes). Back to the point, seeing as a lot of the stuff I've been working with lately is more rock, or even voice overs/soundscapes/sound design the past few months, I'm looking for punchy, and if the SA-8v.2 isn't punchy, its off the list. BUT, i think what you meant is its loud but not boomy, which is what I'm looking for, punchy, loud, NOT boomy (relatively flat....) 2nd EDIT: While its nothing near similar in output to the Q since you had a tiny sealed box and a lil amp, it was probably good sounding, just not loud. As far as how it sounded, how do the 8s and the Q compare (not output, overall SQ). woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port...
