Charger
So he decided his 9918s were getting a bit boring and it was time for a change, maybe a fresh layout. It had to be built on the strictest budget so we chose entry level junk subwoofers. Hopefully a lot of these together off reasonable power should still sound okay and look cool. First step was to remove the old clamshell... she was built pretty strong. Eventually it was all out and ready to start building something else. Charger
The majority of the time was spent planning it out, calculating what angles the baffles are going to be to get the volume we want, and the surface area to fit six subs on each. This takes a lot more time that you would think, once we had it all drawn up we could calculate each angle the cuts need to be made so everything needs to fit properly, no guess work involved in here Once we had worked this out we went and selected the materials we needed, mainly a few sheets of 2400x1200 18mm MDF, and lots of 35x70 structural pine lengths. I've got copies of the original plans if anybody's curious for a look. So first we cut up the very first baffle and start arranging the subs so they all fit nice and straight and evenly spaced.. Finding the centres so that we can use the router jig... the ONLY way to cut holes. If anybody's unsure what we've done I can go back and show detail of how to set it up properly and get it all lined up proper, I just skimmed thru now as I've done a few of these builds these days. So we get the first layer around 330mm per hole, that means the subs will sit flush Just a test fit to make sure we're on the right track baby So we continue and cut the first two mounting holes.. and check to see it's all looking right Some how, we've fluked it this far so we continue to cut the final four holes in this baffle. Luckily it all lines up, yay. Then we can continue to the next three baffles, man this takes some time... So we just keep going The other three are almost identical to each but the angles are facing opposite ways and the subs have a slightly different offset to clear the side of the box... Almost there Snapped a pic of Phil modeling next to his new baffles DATS A LOTTA SUBS So next we take the new bits and sit them inside the car to check the arrangement, nothing is glued or screwed at this point, it is simply just sitting there to see if it looks good and correct. Thanks for all the armchair advice from the experts on Facebook, but yes we will be adding bracing and yes we didn't just wing the volumes and hope everything lines up... I think it sits together okay We test fitted some of the subs, luckily they are so cheap and shallow, they have no problem fitting :80 Thanks guys, comments welcome Quote Previous 150+ daily rides: Volvo 240 wagon 2 x DD Audio 9915s walled, Isuzu Trooper 6 x DD Audio 3515s walled clamshell, Lexus LX470 2 x Kicked Solo X 18s, Lexus LS400 4 x American Bass HD18 walled SMD - System of The Month August 2008 My Youtube Videos

Charger
Got tonnes of pics of each step of the way if anybody wants to see all the simple stuff, just ask. If not, we'll just skip to the bigger steps. What we got done yesterday, doesn't look like much, but had to assemble every layer inside the car, cut a lot of pine bracing and make sure everything is square. not just a throw in. When you throw each layer in one at a time, the angles on the ends 'lock' together making sure it can't fall down, especially when they fit inside the pine 'stegosaurus' frame on the top and bottom, should help against flex and crap I hope. We don't have the best gear for this build but hopefully a little bit of build quality might help. Next is to put all the woofers in and wire the sucka up, chuck the front on the box and hope for 120dBs!! Colin - STAPUFT
I bet she does a 120. How are you going to do the front? Is the entire diamond going to be open or are you going to choke it down a bit? Guess it all depends on your tuning and what you are going for. Looks very solid and well thought out! Tuned in.
