srool Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 I have built a 4th order bandpass for 2 DC lvl 2 m2. the box is in 1:1.25 ratio, for better bandwidth. and tuned to 45 hertz, single rounded 4" diameter port on a 1.25cuft of ported volume (means about 10 cuin of port area on each 1 cuft of ported side volume). I havn't measured yet but the lows are much louder than the highs. What do you suggest to do in order to have better highs ? change the port lenght ?
john253a Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 tune it higher, i like 50-55hz by shortening the port length, my opinion is get a termlab or hire one, get a few test notes, and go at it measure what you have and see then cut it shorter slowly until you get a happy medium
Socky Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Tune it higher, in the 50s, how much power are you running toward them? Quiet Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Considered adding more midbass to your front stage to handle it? If you like the sound otherwise from your 4th order this may be a better route... remember that all adjustments are give and take, so you may loose a little amplitude in the lows tuning higher or possibly end up just throwing the whole damn thing off. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.
srool Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 I tried to enlarge the bandwidth by low ratio and less port area. Didn't expect so much lows but really like this as this setup is mostly for demonstrations. I run them on about 1200 RMS. I have my own SPL Lab meter so I'll find the time to measure it. as for midbass- I have SQL setup- DLS Scandinavia in a 13 liter ported boxes. Isn't additional port going to shorten my bandwidth ?
Socky Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Increase the port to test and see if you like it, it will decrease some of the lows and make the box a bit more musical. DustinBolt Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 i had a similar problem with my 4th order, i tried to shortren the port and it ruined the lows alot... i then changed to a lower tuned ported box and it does the higher notes well and still does a deceent job at the low notes. 1997 BMW 528i Fi ssd 12 6th order box Build Log- http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/144835-rebuild-in-the-bmw-6th-order-time-update-1113/
Socky Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 You would have had better luck with a 2-1 ratio, mix of both, ive never done something to a similar 1-1 ratio always have been 2-1 or 3-1. TylerParrish Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 I would tune higher, would hate to lose those lovely little lows though. you know bitches love lows, right?
