AMERICAN BASSHEAD Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 So i have 3 SK_BT120 battery's backed by a 220amp alt powering 2 15" Zv.2's off a SAZ-3500. I want to know if i can use a LM317 variable power supply (Google it if u don't know what it is) to boost the voltage on my bus bar while im in the lanes competing, my concern is all my bats are 12volt would it hurt them to have 15volts for a short period of time? and is this even feasible with this product? its cheap that's why im asking.
zack_e89 Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 From what I've read, I don't think you want to charge 12 volt batteries over 14.4v. Perhaps someone with some more knowledge could help you more, 97 Suburban 8 custom PSI Platform 3 18's
ChevyBoy95 Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 you can charge 12 volt batteries up to about 15v then bad things start to happen iirc. 14v charge at 16. 16v charge at 18. Wallaceman Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 Most cars charge the battery to 14.4v while in operation and rest at 12.6v without a load applied, So yes, 15v would be ok, however, increased stress and heat can cause hydrogen vapors to be emitted from the electrolytes, but you should be good considering you said it would be for short amounts of time. Just be honest, it's always a work in progress with ever changing plans.
n8ball2013 Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 im pretty sure that this is against the rules while in the lanes. outside of the lanes no big deal but I dont think they'd let you get away with it during a run. t-money Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 from what i can see. u can adjust the voltage but u cant BOOST it higher than what the car charges at? if u want to boost the voltage you would need to change or manipulate the regulator on the alt 2002 ford focus hatch pioneer DEH-P8400bh infinity kappa 6.5 components front and rear XS Power D1200 Shuriken BT-100 audioque 120.4 2 15 inch audioque HDC3 D2 2 audioque 2200d big 3 mechman 220a alt with external regulator 479-418-3056
