Hey guys, its time for me to upgrade my system. It is going into the car in my sig. (Trunk build). My question is will 2 12s in a proper enclosure really be better than 2 15s in a smaller than spec enclosure and why?? Subs will be 2 dc xl's on a dc 5k. Thanks

I have blown out a sub with a box that was to small. And an enclosure thats to big can sound shitty. Im just soeaking from my experiences. That why sub manufacturers give an air space number that the sub works in

Yes subs need to breathe

If you dont have enough space ur going to be loosing output

15s need at least 3 cubic feet each.... plus a massive port.... that's prolly not gonna happen!

my box for my 15s is huge about 10 cubes with full external port... i wish it was bigger... but to make up for it i massively overpower my subs which i WOULD NOT RECCOMEND

Because in a tiny ass box, you won't be able to get enough volume and port area, therefore starving the subs of output, and likely getting a ton of port noise. also, you run into the risk of the subs not being able to cool themselves properly, because there's too much back pressure, and the coil doesn't move as much as it should.

With 12's you can have a proper size box, with plenty of port area. you don't run the risk of blowing your subs nearly as much as the 15's because the coil would move more and be able to properly cool it's self.

a friend of mine (irpirate) has a 6th order with 4 subs. he started out with 18's, but had to switch because his box was too small and the subs weren't cooling properly. he switched to 15s and actually gained on the meter.

The enclosure holds the most responsibility in how a system sounds.

Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs.

More box builds

some cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches!

I'm with captain stupid.

I have had that happen to two of my 12s, I got this box from someone build for 4 12's but it was sealed and really small and I put two 600rms subs in and one blew out or just stop playing all together so I replaced it with another one and then the other one went out. so I put the last one in a small walmart box and sold it to someone, then what to do you know, it went out. all I know if that they were all in really small enclosures, Idk if they went out from too much flex. idk it was just a weird pattern.

P.S. everything was wire correctly real basic setup mono block etc....
