They have the lowest internal port surface area of any shape you can make. This means that there is less resistance to air flow due to friction against the inside of the port...with that being said, with a well designed and smoothed-out port you probably could not hear the difference between a round port and square or rectangle or something with the same specs otherwise Port noise was one thing I was concerned with. Sealed boxes are soooo much easier but lacking on output in some cases. In a daily setup dose it matter that much on the inside of the port?
