audiofanaticz Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 just for looks mainly. not a significant if any performace increase. and they will cost you your other leg nope....... they cost about 330$ for a 18inch cone, a little more if you get the platinum style cone. they are stronger than the standard paper cones that DD uses if you have problems with cones folding in high spl builds that may have some crazy back pressure inside the box. They also have a lesser pitch to the cone compared to the concaveness of a normal cone, they will change the woofers FS a tad to due to the difference in weight, although DD uses a fairly lighter weight nonpressed paper cone to begun with. If you use these cones, they are reusable if you need to recone your woofers later on, however its best to send them to DD for the recone because they have a special method for cleaning them, they will charge you a fee to clean the cones too, your average cost for a recone will be about $220 not including shipping vs the standard $140ish if you sent them in for traditional style paper coned recones again not including shipping.

The amount of recones it would take to equal out the cost of saving the cone everytime would be ridiculous. buy it if you have the money to blow and you want the look. That is if your the average joe working with DD. I guess if your pushing the sub to its absolute limits it could help, but in most cases it is un-needed and just for looks. SlamminBeats Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 for a daily on an average amount of power= looks in a "spl box" with an obscene amount of power = strength.
audiofanaticz Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 build a better box he says... when you have a single woofer pushing out 160+db, yea the box is problematic.. haahaha!
Bump4life Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 build a better box he says... when you have a single woofer pushing out 160+db, yea the box is problematic.. haahaha! haha i guess not. unless this guy is doing 160 with his subs which i bet he is not, the kevlar is for looks. it does make the sub stronger and lighter which increases efficiency as well, but for most people, it is un necessary. on a Z motor you better have it, on a 9500 unless you are pumping 4k + true rms clamped then unneccessary. on 10s and 12s no. maybe on 18s and 15s. but it would never hurt. let me put it that way. it can never hurt. but how badly do you need/want to spend an extra 200-350 dollars.
