18" Subs That Can Handle Over 6000watts RMS

Recommended Posts

How would u even modify ur current box for 2 18s to fit and old one?

Just cut a center hole on a cover baffle?

I think you should sell the box you have build another box, test test test, then carbon fiber it again :good: cuz it looks badass

I don't understand your question? Please rephrase it and I'll be happy to answer. Are you asking how I would put one 18 in a box built for two? If so, I'm not. I plan to buy two 18" subs to replace the two 18s I have now. Same box, same holes, different subs, more amps.

I never said your box couldn't handle it, I'm saying the subs most likely won't be able to handle it in Your box due to it's design. It's possible that they will, but most likely without building it for the subs (design wise) and for the power (design wise), the subs won't take the power.

Do you know where your box rise is, etc.? I'll admit, I don't know what it would take to get the subs to handle that kind of power (regardless of what you go with), but I do know that you can't just throw a sub in a box and have it take 1.5x rated power right off the bat. Maybe someone more experienceed with running this kinda power per sub can chime in with more specifics.

I think we're talking about two different things here. I'm not looking to push the subs at 1.5x or 2x their rated power. I am looking for subs that ARE rated to handle 6000+ each, NOT subs rated at 2500 that "could handle" 6000 if treated with kid gloves. Others were suggesting subs that are rated way under what I asked, but I'm not interested in those. I am interested only in subs that are designed to handle that sort of power from the start. know what I mean?

Your best bet would be DC level 6 or SMD than...... Everything else is "rated" for wayy less..and even the SMD is only(lol) rated for 3500...but as Steve said himself he is running a BDCP2500 to each coil.

Exactly....and it was said that the new V2 SMDs will be rated higher. Those two subs are at the top of my list since DD doesn't make the Z series anymore and I plan to buy new. Crazy how off-topic this thread gets. I'm asking about subs, that's it.

are you looking for subs that will handle 6krms each all day long, i.e. 5 songs in a row without breaking a sweat, in your current box? if so, I don't think you're going to find one. Are there subs that will handle that in the right conditions? yes. but it sounds like you're looking for something that you just want to drop in, toss 6k to them and have them last.

the SMD and Lvl 6 are some of the baddest subs available for (what it sounds like) you are looking for and they are rated for well below what you want to push to them. Steve runs 2 2500s each sure, but he also has YEARS of experience designing enclosures and I'm sure they're designed with that in mind.

Also, I would not run 1 per voice coil, I would strap them. Running multiple amps (unless they are strapped) on a single sub (i.e. 1 amp per voicecoil) is not what you would call a reliable setup. The 2500s are strappable, so you should be fine there

Well, if you think the new V2 SMDs are going to be rated at 6krms, I wouldn't get my hopes up...Companies like DC, DD, and AA rate their subs fairly low so that they will work at their rated wattage in situations like this. My guess is that the new SMDs will probably be rated somewhere between 4 and 5k. This is pure speculation mind you. Steve could probably give you a better idea, but not sure if he can say anything on that topic.

6k is A LOT of power for one sub to handle for extended periods of time. If anything I'm trying to get this thread on track as you didn't specify exactly what you meant so many people just treated it like a "what CAN handle this kinda power" vs. "what WILL handle this kinda power in my situation".

Not 2 subs and 6k each......

I see

how many cubic feet is box? What is it tuned to?

I rest my case with the sp4.... its fuckin beast and would work in your box

If you still have the need for more then sell the sp4s and get the new smd..... its gonna be expensive some little birdy told me :peepwall:

Thoes are the only 2 subs I would switch to, and im running 2 750.1s..... same kinda power you are lookin at

Fi SP4 is only rated at 2500rms. if we're going off RMS ratings, the DC Audio lvl 5 m2 is 3500 and the lvl 6 is 4000, even still all of these are GREATLY below what he is wanting to run to them/below the 6krms rating he is looking for. imo what you're looking for doesn't exist, even the subs that are "rated" for 6k+ aren't going to handle it most likely.

and his box specs are in his build thread

If were going purely of ratings then I believe the b2 audio big sub is way up there soundstream I think has one... same with lanzar now

I believe the price tag for thoes subs is a fair amout more than the lvl 6 with a real lvl 6 basket

yeah...on top of that, I have a hard time beleiving one of those will take anymore power than a lvl 6 or an SMD. Not saying it's not possible, but no one has really tested them that I've seen.
